  1. Has anyone seen the new mule dvd release, A Tale of Two Cities, or the Benefit Concert Vol 8? If so, which one do you prefer?

I have yet to see either, but need to pick one for a gift for someone.

    Thanks in advance.

    Steph

  2. Also, have you ever emailed or called OC Transpo when buses are running late or connections aren't made. That is a big problem, nobody ever does. I see the report of customer complaints monthly. With the amount of daily riders we have, we only ever recieve about 200 unique complaints a months. That's about 4 trips on a packed 95. No wonder things never get changed.

Did I not give you and Steph a free ride the other day ;)

Currently writing an e-mail to Oc Transpo:

Next time there is an event happening at Scotiabank place, please provide more buses! And if I check the website, and phone information to find out the times they will be running, please do your best to provide this service accurately. It is a great inconvenience to have to wait close to an hour, in the cold, after the scheduled times to see only two buses pass by, both so full they couldn't pick up anymore people. There were 20 people or so waiting at my stop for these buses, which was only a fraction of who were probably waiting at the other stops down the line. I understand this happens frequently when events are happening at Scotiabank place, so maybe take this as a sign to add at least one more bus. I was traveling from downtown, so maybe there wasn't an issue from other stops in the city, but please consider that the downtown area buses will be full, and people will be expecting a ride, only to find out after an hour of waiting they won't be getting a bus ride and have to fork over $50.00 for a cab. And yes, I know the 96 goes to Kanata, and could have been an option, but it doesn't go to Scotiabank place so I would have still had to take a cab from Terry Fox. And to someone new to the city, they would have probably no idea about this, and so would then have to call OC Transpo information and wait at least another 15 minutes on hold, which after already being late for the show, wouldn't be much of an option, you'd rather not miss the band(s) you've payed money to see. This doesn't look good on your part, especially to visitors of the city who are relying on your service to get them to their destination. Turns out your not so reliable in these situations.

I'm hoping more people will complain and that something gets done about this. Thank you.

    Paying Customer.

And rubberdinghy, thanks for the rides :D You provide a great service.

  3. Carbon tax according to the national post:

    Here's a chart (or two):

    Chart 1

    Chart 2

An article from the national post:

The Liberal carbon tax: by the numbers

Posted: June 19, 2008, 7:06 PM by Ronald Nurwisah

    Canada, Environment, Graphic

The National Post has boiled down some of the numbers laid out in Stephane Dion's "Green Shift Plan." The chart on the top right looks at how your wallet might be affected positively and negatively by the new carbon tax. The diagram below outlines how the plan should theoretically work. Click on either image for a full-size version:

    • Carbon tax will be assessed at $10 per tonne of greenhouse gas emissions in the first year, rising to $40 by the fourth year. Will apply to all fossil fuels including coal, oil, propane, natural gas and diesel.

    • Tax will apply at the wholesale level, i.e. mainly to firms using the raw material to produce and sell energy.

    • Higher energy costs will be passed on to industry, manufacturers, and ultimately to consumers. Ottawa will offset those costs through tax cuts.

    • Estimated additional tax revenue in fourth year: $15.3 billion.

    • Estimated income tax cuts by fourth year: $6.7 billion

    • Additional benefits to low-income groups: $3.7 billion

    • Business tax cuts: $3.8 billion.

    • Lowest income tax rate will be cut to 13.5% from 15%. Next two bands will be cut to 21% from 22%, and to 25% from 26%.

    • Additional tax changes will include new child tax benefit; employment tax credit for lowest earners, help for the disabled and support for rural and northern residents.

    • No tax increase on gasoline, though producers may pass on higher costs. Diesel and jet fuel exempted in first year.

    • Highest increases apply to coal and fuel oil; lowest increases to natural gas and propane.

    • Estimated additional annual cost to heat homes in fourth year: $203 (home heating oil); $228-266 (natural gas).

    • Increased annual truckers’ cost for diesel: $1,700

  4. from what I can tell ottawa, just seems to have a higher amount of self involved assholes, but that could just be because I have lived here for a while.

I've lived here for just over 2 years and I couldn't agree more. Noticed it almost right away, people are definitely to self absorbed, way more so than the coastal folk I'm used to. Oh well, I've put up with you Ontarians this long and I'm still here.....and sadly, get a bit self absorbed to. I don't like it.

As for the bus thing, definitely seen my share of nasty drivers/passengers. I think kicking the guy off was a little harsh but whatever, its your bus so your call. I do think I pay enough in tax dollars that I deserve to have a #2 arrive on time at least one time out of the month.(Me being self absorbed) This is coming from downtown route, I definitely agree with the whole making the route shorter, or at least split, that was talked about a while back.

Hey Dinghy, question. I rode on a brand new OC transpo bus the other day. Different seat layout and the thing was freaking quiet! When stopped at a light it barely sounded like it was running. What's the deal? There going to be more of these?

    Steph

  5. Congrats! Looks like a fabulous cozy comfy place with lots of character. And can't beat being by the water..and closer to Ottawa! Come visit lots. Or we'll come visit and Trey can run around that yard of yours ;) Great seeing you at Bluesfest.

    Cheers

    Steph

  6. The new rave is Klean Kanteen stainless steal bottles, with the attachment sippy spout for when your baby is a bit older, I see tons of moms with these. As for bottles, if you don't want to do glass or regular plastic there is the Born Free brand which has a wide variety of bottles all BPA free. We have the sippy cup and Trey loves it and learned super fast how to suck out of it with not having any luck with regular bottles and only being used to the breast.

We're pretty lucky in this day and age to have all the options we do for our babies although it can be very overwhelming at times.
