  1. for a first time urban gardener… I’ll take any advice you want to pass along (preferably organic)

So far I’ve added manure and egg shells to the soil. Planted some thyme, chives basil, cherry tomatoes, and carrots. My plan is to add some regular tomato plants, cucumber and perhaps a variety of peppers.

I’ve been reading lots about companion gardening, hence the basil and carrots with my tomatoes.

I’ve also read about hair clippings and old shoes to keep animals at bay.

    Any more tips.

  2. I bet Community centres would have great idea's for you-they know lots about neighborhood needs.

I'd love to see some more safe play space in the Rochester/ /Gladestone/Eccles area. I'm not sure if there is space anywhere near there available. We always used to see kids just playing in the street around that old Loab (hey I wonder what if that land is up for grabs).

There is a housing complex (I guess it could even be Minto) in that area that doesn’t seem to have much of a play area., and I’m sire if there is one it could use some uplifting.

  3. potatoes do often take awhile in the crockpot, a trick is to place them at the bottom underneth any meat, or cut them smaller.

    and don't forget this recipe

    Crockpot Roast Sticky Chicken

    4 tsp. salt

    2 tsp. paprika

    1 tsp. cayenne pepper

    1 tsp. onion powder

    1 tsp. thyme

    1 tsp. white pepper

    1/2 tsp. garlic powder

    1/2 tsp. black pepper

1 large roasting chicken, make sure it will fit in your size crockpot

    1 cup chopped onion

In small bowl, thoroughly combine all spices.

Clean chicken well and remove giblets. Pat dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture into the chicken, both inside and out, making sure it is evenly distributed and down deep into the skin. Place in a resealable plastic bag, seal and refrigerate overnight.

When ready to cook put the chopped onion inside the chicken then put it in the crockpot and do not add any liquid. As the cooking process goes on the chicken will produce it's own juices.

Cook on low 8-10 hours( high 5-6). The chicken will be falling off the bones.

    My additions

    garlic cloves inside the chicken

    carrots under the chicken

broiled the chicken for the last 5-10 minutes (just to brown the skin a little)

  4. Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.

Let it all hang out 'cause we got a run to make.

The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarcana.

And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',

we're gonna do what they say can't be done.

We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run."

  5. The one I'm drinking right now tastes grrreat, I'm using the spicy clamato.

I have had bad experiences with the Works blend, I enjoy it the first day I open it but can't stand the smell if I try it the next day. I'm not sure if it's the horseradish they put in there or what. I do like putting my own horse radish in them as I make them though.
