  1. Hey everyone,

So the ever-busy Marco Benevento is dropping another album on us next week. "Between the Needles & Nightfall" is the 3rd release from the Trio featuring The Slip's Andrew Barr and Tea Leaf Green's Reed Mathis. Head to

see a sweet promo video created by the good folks over at Shine A Light Productions and head to their actual homepage to watch some cool behind the scenes videos of the Trio in action http://shinealightproductions.com/behind_the_scenes.htm

    Enjoy!

  2. Cool Luke I figured that was the case. Thanks for the heads up about that little spelling mistake there too. I was supposed to interview The Low Anthem and after that show I'm so pissed that I canceled on them. I really think that was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Easily in my top 5.

  3. Brad would definitely know best, no question about that.

"He brushed the symbols of his drum kit did he, the symbols of his drum kit. Was he doing some light brush work on the ride symbol? Brother I do not know where to start with you." - I'm going to assume these are just friendly little chirps.

I just write how I feel about what I hear and see at the show...if you don't dig it that's totally cool but I know the guys like my writing as I just wrote the new bio for SMMD (look for that soon!)...

Also I'll assume Weirdness was the dude taping at the show. I was the guy who came up to him right after the concert ended asking where he was going to post it online.

  4. did anyone get the low anthem setlist by the way...

here's the barr brothers setlist, not necessarily in the right order

    Beggar in the Morning

    Ooh, Belle

    Old Mythologies

    Deacon's Son

Lord I Just Can't Keep from Cryin'

Give The Devil Back His Heart

Was That So Long Ago (tentative title)

  5. i'm on my 2nd kettlewell after a camper dropped a barrel on my first mod-ott

i've had the pleasure of spending some time at Ray's shope just outside of haliburton. he's a super kind old man.

if you want to spend under $130 look into buying a "seconds" or imperfect paddle. they're still awesome but they often contain a knot or some small imperfection

i'm currently using a ray's special, i prefer it to my old mod-ott

buy a paddle from Ray before he actually retires (everytime i see him he tells me he's retiring, i think its a ploy to sell paddles haha)

these paddles are a steal, and really a piece of art (i hang them on my wall in the off season)

  6. read the book and loved it, the trailer makes the film look insanely good. marty is probably my favourite director and his style, sense of space and knack for suspense should all translate nicely to this super dark book. can't wait for friday.

  7. mayer is probably one of the best guitar player's out there right now. while his pop stuff is well, pop, his playing with the Trio is absolutely top notch and not to be ignored. his show at the Sound Academy is with the Trio and will be a smoking performance

check out this performance of mayer and the trio tearing up hendrix's "wait until tomorrow" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-TSVwPkCok and playing his original "who did you think i was"

At the outset of 2008, Marco Benevento set up shop at New York City’s brand new Greenwich Village music space, Sullivan Hall, for a month-long residency. Calling it home for five Thursday nights in January, Benevento invited a who’s who in modern jazz and improvisational rock music to perform with him each week in various configurations. Benevento hauled his own baby grand piano from his Brooklyn apartment to the Sullivan Hall stage to host both musical friends and heroes. Each night he’d lead his musical co-conspirators through two sets of daring and consistently breathtaking improvisations. Whether it was the Bitches Brew-esque sonic explorations of the Benevento-Steven Bernstein-Bobby Previte-DJ Olive collaboration, or the glorious post rock ferocity of Benevento-Brad Barr-Joe Russo, or Benevento’s own trio with Reed Mathis and Andrew Barr celebrating the release of their debut album Invisible Baby, each performance took on a life completely its own. As the sold out crowds from week to week will attest, these shows were the stuff of legend in the recent history of downtown New York City’s music scene. Thankfully, all five nights were shot on high definition video along with multi-track recordings that are now set for a DVD release entitled Marco Benevento (& Friends): Live In NYC: The Sullivan Hall Residency. While it’s Marco Benevento’s name at the top of the billing, what the film portrays is a dynamic family of fearless, faithful, one-of-a-kind artists who are making some of the most vital music of their time.
