  1. Hope it was a great night, Todd/Heather. My apologies: my wife came down w/ the flu, so I was home w/ our kids. Todd - all the best. Sorry I missed. Got time to get together this week?
  2. While I have another commitment that night (50th anniversary for my wife's aunt/uncle), I'll find a way to drop 'round to buy Velvet a round. Cheers!
  3. They're simply in my best all time live recordings. Yup, and all from my youth (and guitar based). I think cases could be made for both the Deep Purple and Johnny Winter records - both popular, important. The Free is an unappreciated gem, but very influential. 'Course RS focuses as much (or more) on cultural import than musical import. Yeah, Focus is silly, but Akkerman's on fire on that disc.
  4. missing: Gentle Giant - Playing the Fool Deep Purple - Made in Japan Free - Live! Focus - Live at the Rainbow Johnny Winter - And/Live Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour (yes, I'm old)
  5. Gilmore (NYC improviser) or Gilmour (Pink Floyd)? Both badass... NYC Dave: http://www.davidgilmore.net/ http://www.myspace.com/davidgilmoregroup
  6. Ritchie Blackmore Allan Holdsworth Ollie Halsall Paul Kossoff Andy Powell David Torn John Abercrombie Jeff Beck Lenny Breau Adrian Belew Jimi Hendrix Bill Connnors Richard Thompson etc...
  7. Well said, Brad. I really enjoyed last night - while I only caught the first set (was a long day), I'm looking forward to listening to the CD. Both masterful, diverse players that showcase a broad range of timbres.
  8. From Linsey: On Thursday, November 22nd, Mike Essoudry and I will finally be releasing our disc. I, for one, am pretty excited about the whole thing, and I hope that you'll be able to make it out to help us celebrate. The show will be at the Avant Garde Bar (135 1/2 Besserer) and will start at 8:00pm (a little earlier than our usual time). There will be a $5 cover charge. The show will feature: Mike Essoudry - drums, percussion, clarinet Linsey Wellman - alto/soprano saxophones, bass clarinet about the album: In their first album together, Linsey Wellman (alto/soprano saxophone) and Mike Essoudry (drums/percussion) combine to explore the possibilities of tone, rhythm and melody. Over thirteen tracks and nearly an hour, they embrace stasis and movement, meditation and exuberance, delicacy and amplitude. Their improvisations and compositional sketches look both forward and back, to the ever new possibilities of instant creation, and to sounds, themes and evocations as old as humanity itself.

  12. It was indeed an incredible show last night - best I've seen/heard McLaughlin. Tremendous interplay by all over some complex material - badass players, all. You can tell they've had this on the road for a bit... Really firing on all cylinders. Intense, but moments of real subtlety too. Awesome!
  13. There are lots of tix still available for the Ottawa show. While retailers may not have a ton on hand, there's plenty left according to the OIJF.
