  3. hey there. in the process of trying to buy the place we rent, (which we are not getting now due to a myriad of reasons) we discovered the water is unsafe to drink. we required a water potability test to get approval for our mortgage. Anyhow when we moved in I specifically asked if it was safe and do they get it tested? They responded yes to both these. After we found out it was not safe I asked when the last time they tested it was and they could not give an answer. I am on an immunosuppressant medication, therefore the potential for harm was there due to their negligence. Also we have had children over and pregnant people. No true elderly people have visited. While no E.Coli 0157H7 was found, coliforms were found in the water indicating a problem with the purification system, and potential for E.Coli and other water pollutants. At the worst these could result in death if you are in one of the four aforementioned categories.

However, thankfully, I do not think there was harm.

Basically what I want to know is what are my rights in this situation? I phoned the tenant board who said to buy bottled water and submit the receipts to our landlord. Any other advice. I mean we have paid them over 15 000 in rent since moving in, and it makes me very very angry they did not spend 50 bucks to get the friggin water tested :susel:

  4. if this passes it brings us one step closer to the united states cruel, horrible, penal system.

So what can we do to stop it? asides from writing my senator, I truly do not know and am looking for ideas.

  5. Of the $million$ Emery made from his sales of seeds (among other things) I would seriously doubt that the vast majority of it went to advocacy groups and helping out the little guy. These networks were little more than PR/Advertising for his business and the business that drives his business.

i do know when talking with the guy who owned the head shop in st. john's, he said emery gave him some money to help start up.

  6. Tommy got nailed due to his "celebrity."

My point is that the same thing happened to Marc Emery. He waved and wagged it in everyone's face. It was only a matter of time and we all knew.

so did Henry Morgantaler. and although he went to jail for a few months in the 70s (altho' subsequently acquitted) back when canada was still backwards' date=' he was never extradited to the US for continuing to perform abortions on american women who came to his clinics in canada.

the emory case has nothing to do with justice. it has everything to do with a failed us drug policy and their insistence on casting blame outside of themselves. it's not like he mailed seeds to americans who didnt request them. [/quote']

    100% agreed.

    the whole thing stinks.

  7. interesting. unsure of the lens yet...but was thinking of a zoom something like a 50-300 or variation there of. mmhh more f-stops, for sure something to think about. but on my old pentax i remember LUGGING around a 35, a 50, a 200 , and it just gets to be a bit much sometimes. although i did love the 50mm.

  8. so i'm in the market for a camera. i would like a dslr, probably a prosumer. i do not need a huge one camera so will probably get an APS-C ( i just learned waht that is) rather than full frame sensor.

i am starting from scratch so have no lenses etc. i used to shoot with a pentax spotomatic 500, so learned a little about photography, then after getting tired of lugging it around bought a canon point and shoot, which i love and takes fantastic pictures.

there are so many out there, i guess i would like something relatively light, that has a good all in one lens ie. 18-200.

any help or recomendations or regrets others have would be appreciated.

shoot a response my way....or i guess it might be me shooting your way,

    db

  9. What I should have posted is this:

If you are going straight you shouldn't have to yield, no matter what your mode of transportation. If someone is trying to turn in either direction, they must make sure someone isn't trying to go straight, be it someone driving in their own lane in the other direction, a pedestrian crossing the street, or a cyclist travelling in the same direction as you (who is also in their own lane - the side of the road being the bike lane).

velvet...have you been wearing your helmet? ;)

  10. On my cycling trip through Europe I was absolutely amazed at how cars ALWAYS deferred to cyclists and how cyclists ALWAYS followed the rules. It didn't hurt that there were completely distinct paths for pedestrians and cyclists' date=' and every single road had a dedicated bike lane. In the case 'ersh mentioned, in Denmark if you turn right and nail a cyclist, apparently the fine is enormous.[/quote']

My experiences in Victoria were very similar. Motorists and cyclists have largely learned to live with each other there, and as a result you see a lot less anger and a lot more general compliance with the rules of the road from all sides.

thats probably b/c in victoria it seems neither cyclist or motorist has any clue to 'driving'. not one. it really infuriates me on a near daily basis. :susel:

  11. i just found out reba (ryba) is fish in slovak

  12. we have been renting a place since jan. the 'homeowners' told us they want to sell it six months ago. so we get in inspected and appraised. are arranging inspection of septic etc they say "we are thinking $xxxx for the place" During this time we see two houses we like but dont put offers in cause we like our rented house more.

then out of nowhere they change their minds. they do this buy a crappy email...after we had them over for two really nice dinners to discuss this.

then they change their minds again.

so we are six months post initial discussions, hours of talking etc. hours of us debating what we can afford. so then we put on offer in via our realtor (who thought we were WAY overpaying) of 95% of their asking price.

anyhow they tell our realtor they "were very clear that the asking price was non-negotiable"

F***! IF that is the case why not say its non-negotiable or, its our bottom line, or whatever,,,..just be clear.

really frustrated that we put in a really fair offer, and they are trying to squeeze us for not just over market value but WAY over. Also of course if we knew this six months ago-the non-negotiable thing, we could of bougght a different home we really liked for over 100, 000 less!!!!!!!!!!

on a side note we share the house with them...they said verbally 'we will be there (in the basement, seperate entrance) for about one week a month, the rest of the time we will be in mexico. they have been here the last three months sraight. when i questioned them on this...he said well i specifically drew up your lease to state it would be a shared place". maybe??but thats not what you told me..........

the only reason we dont walk...is its on a lake and althought the house is crap, the lake is pretty.
