  1. THE GOLDEN DOGS!

All you need to know about them, if'n you don't know already, is at this recent review from Chart - http://www.chartattack.com/DAMN/2005/03/0528.cfm

    JACK KEROUAC KNAPSACK BAND!

You've probably seen them (if you live in Kingston), if not, you need to!

Queen's Journal wrote an excellent article about them a while back - http://www.queensjournal.ca/articlephp/point-vol132/issue24/arts/lead1

  2. Rock Crew Productions is very proud to present The Junction at The Grad Club on February 26 with special guests The Roamers. Cover is $6.

Imagine a sound that combines the organic acoustic elements of folk music, with an innovative interpretation of the modern British rock scene. Welcome to the unique sound of The Junction.

'With This Comes Tomorrow' is their first nationally distributed EP that will leave the listener wanting more. These four friends from Brampton, Ontario have spent a long time developing a sound with variety that ranges from light-hearted four-to-the-floor sing-alongs to intensely creepy indie rock. Each member has created an individual voice on their respective instrument, and in conjunction with the texture and musicality of the vocal melodies comes a sound that is both diverse and unique.

The Junction released a 3 song self-titled teaser EP in February 2003 and has since sold upwards of 1000 copies to fans. Citing such nfluences as the Dave Matthews Band, Radiohead, and Travis, The Junction has a distinctive energy to their music that is contagious. One listen and it's obvious that they are ready to say something that Canadian music needs to have said. The Junction has already brought their danceable fortitude to the UK and will be touring Canada in the fall to support this release.

The Junction is Brent Jackson (vocals/guitar), Matthew Jameson (bass), Joel James (keyboards/vocals) and Mike Taylor (drums).

The Roamers are a rock and roll quartet from Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Simple, Raw, and Catchy...that's how the Roamers believe rock and roll should sound....And that's exactly what there doing...

The band initially formed in the summer of 2001 in drummer Ryan Fraser's basement as a two piece with Mark Wilson on guitar and vocals. They eventually evolved and added David Moulton on guitar and Dave Lander on bass. The four initially met as friends in high school, which can be seen in their live show as a special chemistry is felt.

K Rock 105.7 has featured The Roamers multiple times on their New Music Preview show with comparisons to The Strokes. The Roamers were also in the 2004 K Rock Band Slam for Canadian Music Week.

The Roamers are currently playing the bar scene and doing shows with popular indie and major label acts such as The Organ, Atomic 7, Projet Orange, and Thornley.

  3. This Thursday at Elixir!

Slaves of Spanky have been making backwoods hip hop music and generally making asses of themselves since 1996. After a live performance hiatus during 01/02, using said time to travel, educate, and work on new material, the SOS crew is back at it and hotter than ever. Gleaming white hot. Hot enough to burn your ass from 50 feet away, which is why they wear velcro shoes at shows. They recently suffered humiliating defeat at the hands of hip hop queen Emily Fennell at K-Rock Bandslam 2005. Goddamn.

Cover is $5. Ass Machine & Pelt open the show ... see you this Thursday!

  4. Credit must be given to CFRC's Mike Sallot for an excellently written post.

Around the world, Kid Koala is widely regarded as one of the best DJs to ever step to the 1s and 2s (that's DJ slang for turntables).

He has released two classic albums on the taste making Ninja Tune label and has gone around the world and back spinning records for legions of adoring fans. In Japan and England, he is revered as a God (no joke). He even opened up for Radiohead on the Kid A tour.

In the past few years, most of the times he found his way to Kingston, it was with his band Bullfrog.

The last time they came to Kingston (January 2004), Bullfrog brought a different dynamic to the stage. Marc Roberston had taken over vocal duties and long gone was the sing-song hip hop style that everyone was expecting. Instead we got some watered down soul music and Kid Koala's turntable wizardry took a back seat to the Robertson solo trip. At the end of the night, Kid Koala got a chance to perform his cut up version of "Moon River" which left the audience collectively drooling at the mouth. Wow!

But in the words of Marc Robertson "In this band, he's just Eric". While this may be true, fans were dying to hear more Kid Koala! They wanted to dance the "Roboshuffle" for chrissakes!!

Well, Kingston, you are in luck!

Kid Koala will be performing at CFRC's monthly dance party (Dance To The Underground, you might have heard of it). What makes this show so special is that you get nothing but Kid Koala for one very special evening. This is the only solo date he is playing in Canada and it's going to be a straight up DJ set. It's a one-off dream come true!

Come and check him out Friday, February 25 at the Elixir Nightclub.

This is going to be a night to remember! (Like the time Mix MasterMike was DJing so hard at the Elixir that he made his monitor explode live on stage).

Tickets are on sale now at UBS Exchange, Zap Records, Brian's Record Option, Renaissance Music, Elixir and www.rockcrew.ca

D R One and DJ Grand Theft are also on the bill

  5. Finally! It's 274 years since "Birth Of Confusion" impressed fans & critics. On Feb 22, "Flies in the No Fly" hits stores!

  6. Serena Ryder is back in Kingston - Saturday Feb 12 at The Grad Club! By gar it's been a while (November 2002 opening for Tegan & Sara I think was her last show here)!

Her album Unlikely Emergency was released in 2004 (produced by Hawksley Workman) and, in the opinion of the fantastic staff of Rock Crew Productions, is one of the best albums of the year. Don't miss this show!

Former Morganfields frontman Alun Piggins is the opening act.

Tickets are $6 advance and available at Zap Records, Brian's Record Option, UBS Exchange, Renaissance Music, The Grad Club and on-line at www.rockccrew.ca
