So far backwards that your forward again.....
So far backwards that your forward again.....
So far backwards that your forward again.....
So far backwards that your forward again.....
Your vocal minority is feeling rather testy these days, I guess you would have the world believing that I am the badest man on the planet.... so be it. Most people on "the scene" know the real story, not just the gossip, and know better than to take the slander on this irresponsible, joke of a site for reality.
"If this behavior bothers you..SAY SO!!!"
Careful queen bee...... you have benefited from our "friendly, non-confrontational" manner as much as I. Do you think that the very same people who tell you what you want to hear don't also tell me what I want to hear? Such arrogance!!
For the record, I have never kyboshed any attempt to put on a show. EVER! In fact I have built partnerships with many organizations to better facilitate more and bigger shows. Watch for upcoming joint efforts between Nugget, NLE and Full Tilt Boogie. Some of these shows are even in Ottawa. Somebody was told that the show they were thinking of putting on wouldn't work for a number of business reasons, and that I would offer no help..... that is not a kybosh!
The marketing of the name Nugget Productions above the name of the bands is by design and for good reason. Sorry to disappoint my detractors..... but it is not about my ego. The fact of the matter is that no one knows who Tala, GTB, JSB, nero and Dr. Huxtable are....... It is the intent of Nugget Productions to build a brand name that is associated with a certain style of music.... That way, when someone sees a listing for a band they have never heard of, but see that it is a Nugget Production, they know what to expect and are more likely to attend the show. Brand name recognition..... Marketing 101.... I'm trying to grow this scene, not make it an elitist click as you skanks would have it.
There are very few that know just how much effort, time, money and risk it takes to put on show....... ignorance is bliss.
As for all of you who think you know the story, thru gossip or edited emails..... think what ever you want.... I'm so fucking done dealing with this....
I ain't doing this for the respect.
I ain't doing this for the respect.
I ain't doing this for the respect

TALA
After spending 3 years on the edge of the east, Tala has evolved and migrated where they have finally grown their roots: Montreal. Melding a variety of backgrounds into one tight sound, Tala has managed to create fine melodies that focus all of their energies into an electric groove.
Entering the scene as their current conglomerate has permitted the band to learn from their multitude of experiences. Evolving from a jam band, to a funk band, to their current indefinable state, the band has begun to settle with their grass roots, Indian food, and their van. Tala has created a whisper on the street that is growing to a moan: A sound by which the East has already been infected. Soon, all will be shouting the sound that is Tala.
Tala has impressed crowds and cows with their obsessive performance, which always reflect the way the band feels, and not how they plan to feel. The reality based performances and music steers away from the mainstream hype and artificiality yet brings in the new sound that has been stirring the underground for years.
Who is Tala?
Adrian Aitken: Drum Kit, Percussions
Jason Blanchard: Vocals, Electric & Acoustic Guitars
Marc Lajoie: Electric & Acoustic Basses
Steve Venkatarangam: Electric Guitar, Vocals, Sitar

Exactly what the list was meant to illustrate.... some choices are easy to agree with some are not..... but they are all personal choices... not commandments!
Cheers to those with enough taste to dislike, enough intelligence to articulate and enough courage to share....

Thank you to everyone who made last night such a smashing success!
Last night was very important on a number of levels. I have high hopes that many of the new faces will return and help build the momentum that our little scene has sorely lacked of late.
In my opinion, last night was the finest nero show ever in Ottawa.... There was a Comfort Zone esq feeling to the show......... nero laid down an EPIC 2 hr 40 min set..... Everyone danced and danced and danced..... I loved looking around to see so many new faces getting their asses kicked.... Kids I have never seen before, with their eyes shut, bodies shaking and fist in the air.... gives me a warm fuzzy
We had a visit from the editor in chief of the Ottawa Xpress last night. It will be interesting to see if it will result in anything, but simply by attending the show and finally acknowledging that this scene exists was a great step forward. As far as I'm concerned we could not have put a better face forward than we did last night...... Thank you to all of you.
Special thanks to Brad and Laurie for all your help at the door.
Quote of the night
From a very drunken Dave-O
"it's like an out of town nero show in Ottawa......... Quote that shit man"

I have learned to never use the term when dealing with anyone in the media or on the streets.
For whatever reason, the Jamband term carries with it a lot of negativity.
The demographic about to enter University age is the start of a major population bulge that will last for 10-15 years.... This market is the key and the term Jamband remids them of their parents music... better start calling it something else, even if it is the same pile.
-
Good luck and have fun Jeff
wish I could be there tonight
-
I could easily write 10 pages on my thought and theories surrounding this topic.
All I'm gonna say is this.... if we want this thing to become bigger than it is.... the very first thing we have to do is loose the term "jamband" all together. I know a lot of you older heads take comfort in that term, but it has to go. It turns off more people than it turns on, media and venues especially....
Besides... we still haven't agreed on what a Jamband is anyway.... is Threat From Outer Space a Jamband?.... Hell no! Is Cruzao a Jamband?.... Hell no! Do they both kick huge ass? Hell ya
So why do we exclude them by using this Jamband term?? Perhaps the stagnant growth can be attributed to our lack of willingness to support the non core "jambands". There are touring bands that are doing some amazing shows.... and no one shows up... they are not all Jambands... get your heads out of that space... the less clearly we define the style, the greater a market it can reach, and therein lies the secret to our growth... think about it
