  1. Sounds like soutern Ontario is a lot of fun!

Starting in July we are gonna feed you a steady diet of Nuggets as well...

    Nugget Productions presents

    THREAT FROM OUTER SPACE

    Wedneday July 10

    Baccus Lounge

    London, ON

Their trademark sound has been coined "New School Funk". This Five-Man Crew is on a self-propelled mission, on a course that will not deviate. Their instrumentation is diverse and original. With a focus on Funk and Dub elements, carried by a Hip-Hop flare, the combination of drums, electric and upright basses, electric guitar, synthesizers, trumpet, saxophone, and vocals creates a live show that is mesmerizing and entertaining. The debut EP release, entitled "All Systems Activated" contains five tracks produced by the group and Lee Preston of Greenhouse Studios. From the Opening Launch warm-up of "Drip Shit Heavy", to the dubish groove of "Our Text For Today" 's final blast sequence, it becomes clear that the term "New School Funk" best describes this group's venture.

TFOS will be in Ottawa July 27 @ the Bayou

    FREE FLOW

    Wednesday July 17

    Baccus Lounge

    London, ON

FreeFlow, as the title suggests is about movement, fluidity, and creative spontaneity. The project was spawned in the winter of 1999 as a jam band playing a regular Friday night gig at a local restaurant/bar on the East Side of Vancouver. Slowly the riffs, grooves and musical interplay evolved into distinctive songs and style. Taking influences from jazz to soul, from reggae to hip-hop, throw in some funk and even rock n' roll, FreeFlow keep it musically dynamic for themselves as well as for their audiences.

Giggles and I got lots more to come for you London kids....

  2. Yeah... lot's to do on a Tuesday.....

The Mike Stern band is very expensive @ $35 a head. Will be an awesome show though.

I'm curios to see what Reggae night will be like. I plan on dropping by on my way to Babylon for a couple of $2.50 drinks and to see if it is the same band as last week.

  3. Who are the Herbaliser band?

The herbaliser band are a group of nine young players that joined forces with uk hip hop producers jake wherry and dj ollie teeba. back in 1995 at the time of the first herbaliser lp "remedies", ollie had been touring as a dj to help promote the album. jake was quick to point out that djing was not the only (or most effective) way to maximise the potential of the record. enter the band... hornists lamb and ross, aka 'the easy access orchestra', and fellow sessionistas chris bowden and matt coleman formed the brass frontline, with kaidi 'shocka' tatham on classic keys. moody and dawes joined wherry's bass to provide the rock solid rhythm section underpinning teeba's scratches. and so the herbaliser band was born!

    What do they sound like?

for those having never been to a herbaliser show, it is a 'live' representation of the instrumental cuts from their lps.

    But its different. How?

When they first started working together as the herbaliser, jake and ollie knew a few musiciansand precious few mcs but knew their sampler intimately and refusing to acknowledge those restraints, set out to become 'hip hop instrumentalists'. as time went on and subsequent lps were recorded collaborations with rappers became more frequent, in fact they began to make up about fifty percent of the content. unfortunately, due to their own career committments mostly, the rappers were unable to join the herbaliser's gruelling tour schedule. no problem! by the time jake and ollie were working with vocals the band had already performed several shows and was getting things locked down very tight indeed! also they were developing sounds. due to the improvisational nature of the performances, the tracks that had been adapted from the lps were changing, growing, mutating from the basic sample/break compositions into fully fledged 'big band' pieces.

  4. nice Brad...... it is difficult to articulate the energy and spirit of a nero show.... you nailed it a few times....

"What we saw and what we heard turned into what we felt: senses blurred into layers of feeling, with no hard separation between them."

did you get into my tea?

  5. nero rocks.... something about being at a nero show in that room.... man... a warm fuzzy, being hugged from the inside out type of feeling.... or it could have been the tea....

    Better every time....

How fucking cool were the lights!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jebusssssss...... Imagine if they had someone who knew the songs working them!!!!

It is nights like last night that have the Cafe Dekcuf wanting to get this crowd in their bar as much as possible. I love how the managment has come full circle and are now totaly onside with this crew tokers and jokers, but realy, we are any bars wet dream, we come out any night, drink like phish and never cause a problem (except sloth).... starting in the fall, we are all gonna be spending a lot of time there..... a lot!

  6. So last night I checked out the first Reggae night at Cafe Dekcuf...

Me and 5 other people braved the downpour ..... the sparse crowd brought back memories of nero's first weekly whipings ..... unfortunetly the music did not!

The band featured the bass player from Raggamuffin, he has an incredible voice, and his bass shook the cafe down.... unfortunetly, that was the extent of the good things I have to say about the band. It was like watching a rehearsal, they would stop 10 bars into the song, the bass player would tell them what they were doing wrong, then they would start over. They had no idea how to finish their songs resulting in many train wrecks.... worst guitar player I have ever seen...

On the upside, mixed drinks were only $2.50 and the bar staff were generous with their measurments.... This would have been infinetly more tolerable if it were social. I hope to see a few of you out next week.

    Quote of the night

"opps... um, you don't mind if I make that a double do you?"

  10. I am looking forward to this show a lot. After I saw nero for the first time, I don't think I ever went more than a few weeks without seeing a show. 420 was a long time ago, I think that was the last I saw them.... long time man!

I think it is gonna be fucking mental to hear what the road has done to nero's sound. We will be in a great position, having heard them so often, to realy hear and feel the difference. They hear themselfs everynight and probably have no idea how sick they have become...

  11. And Nugget Productions thanks Good Moon err..... Good Mood, Good Mood, Good Mood.... sorry about that... my bad.... nuggs!

I totally appreciate you guys playing that gig on such short notice and bringing out such a big crowd..... and girls too.... not a sausage fest.... DMB = chicks... pretty easy math.

I'm sure the Bayou thanks you to, otherwise that would have been one empty room. Of course they probably don't thank you enough to give you a free beer or anything like that.... cheap fuckers!

I had a lot of fun, thanks guys

  12. Clones?... doesn't everyone have them? The Guelph version was just a beta.... wait until you see release 2.1!! (coming this fall)

OK, the pig on a spit is more like a Beagle on a couch..... and we can't eat him.......how about ham cubes on tooth picks? Of course, there will be plenty of toast, liquor and Nuggets to flow freely!

I live on Clarence St. Anyone who wants directions, just send me an email. If you suspect your not invited, you're probably right!

  13. Boy!! Man!! God!! Shit!!!!

Dammit Dave-O!!! Are you kidding me? Where the hell did you find these kids? When I say kids I mean it! I think Dave-O was the only member of that band over 20. Good thing no one checked the bass players ID! Has anyone ever had their ID checked at The Bayou?

As I sat listening to the first set, a giddy feeling washed over my brain and visions of many many many more shows for the AHS began to take hold. A lucky handful of you will be able to say you were there for their first show….. first of many!

I don’t even know how to begin to describe this sound….. Dave-O, dude, you are such a rockstar… the magician directing the madness……The bass player was like 6’4 but played like he was 8’4!! Super heavy funk…. Chris Chu esq at times…. The keyboard player was Madeski in a 18 year old body… that kid could do no wrong…. The drums drove this freaky groove machine, keeping it all together… I can’t fucking believe that was their first gig!!

There are times when I get discouraged doing shows, shitty crowds, crappy bands, it is all part of the game I suppose. Nights like last night are what make it all worth it. To stand there and know that you are hearing something special, knowing right away that this is a big deal and the beginning of something…. Goosebumps man!,

House tapes were recorded, and will be in constant rotation in my car….. steps are being taken to make this first ever show available for download……Wait till you hear them jam out the Muppet show theme song…. Oh man!
