  1. Agreed... the Wheel is a different band everytime I see them.

I'm pretty much in love with the new arrangment.... perfect! Once they reel AlGee (sp?) in they will realy start blowing our minds!

Can't wait to hear them again!

If you haven't Seen Threat rom Outer Space...... DON'T Miss them!!!!! Think Rage against the MAchine meets P-Funk.... awesome!

  2. Seems every week gets worse and worse for the Muffin. Last night's Muffin saw no keyboards and no PoPo. A very sparse crowd and not many hotties.....

I asked about where PoPo has been.... Doing his own thing for a while was the response.... bummer, I think he is amazing. Looks like the end is drawing near for everyones Thursday night fun.... just in time for Groove Thursdays to take over in September..... which is good.... I guess... gonna have to keep an eye open for PoPo gigs though.....

  3. Oh man... it is like pulling teeth to get the Ottawa XPress to give a crap about any of our great shows but they got on board for CRUZAO

Check out this weeks issue which contains a glowing 4 star review of CRUZAO's new CD Shades of Brown. See me at the show tonight for your copy @ $20

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was the same reviewer who just didn't get nero.

I saw CRUZAO in Aylmer last night, and you are all in for a treat tonight!!....smoking!

Quote of the night... sound man says as he is helping Cruzao tear down in Aylmer .... "sounds like drug music to me"

1st Runner-up at the National Jazz Awards for "Electric Jazz Group Of The Year"

Nick Ali - winner of the National Jazz Award for "Jazz Composer Of The Year"

    WEBSITE

Led by young Trinidadian born, New York trained trumpet player Nick "The Brownman" Ali, who himself has just under 100 CD recording credits as a side man to his name, this hard hitting latin-jazz unit funkifies it's audiences with Brownman's original latin-funk compositions and high-energy virtuositic jazz soloists. The amalgamation of authentic latin rhythm, jazz harmony and modern funk groove, this group began it's career as a musical experiment for Brownman in the tonal qualities of latin music composed in a chordless setting (no piano, no guitar). Since the late '50s jazz musicians have richly explored this unique musical texture creating a 5 decade chordless jazz tradition, however this texture had never been explored in Latin America, due to the dominance and omni-presence of the piano "montuno" or equivalent guitar structures.

The result of this musical experiment -

    Nick Ali & CRUZAO

    - the first chordless latin-jazz-funk unit in history -

CRUZAO is modeled in that jazz tradition of 'the chordless quintet', and takes the same approach in a latin-jazz context.

Featuring the Ali Brothers - Nick "The Brownman" and Marcus Ali - and dedicated to the amalgamation of latin rhythm, jazz harmony and funk groove, .CRUZAO explores the inner workings of these artforms through Brownman's original compositions, intense *improvisation-interaction and raw energy.

Paying homage to the music of late-sixties, early-seventies era Miles Davis, The Bitches Brew Tribute Band performs selections from such seminal recordings as In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and A Tribute to Jack Johnson. Long considered significant milestones in the development of jazz-rock fusion, these recordings mix a variety of styles from r&b and free jazz to atmospheric and world music textures. The impact of these Miles Davis sessions is apparent in the funk, hip-hop, psychedelic and contemporary jazz music released since the early-seventies. In existence for several years performing to appreciative audiences, the current line-up of The Bitches Brew Tribute Band features five talented musicians of diverse performing and recording experience.

  7. messy messy messsy

    Puddles of fun... hahahahahaha

First off the opener was called Chris Colepaug and the Cosmic Crew... sexy 6 foot tall, cowboy hat wearing bass player, with a completely insane guitar player filled out with animal from the Muppet show on drums..... IF ZZ Top was from Moncton... they would sound like this.... Loved their set and will try and get them back ASAP

Lots of smiles and giggling last night eh?...Jaybone gets the Man of the Match award for last night.... everyone knows why

I'm a little ummm.... fuzzy.....on some of the details of last nights madness but here is what has left an impression on me today.... Lemondust.... holly crap! I think that song found new territory and by the end of it, my ass was so thoroughly kicked, I had to ask Velvet what that song was called when I knew damm well what it was. Crazy Condor last night... what an anthem... peeked over and over and over... awesome! I remember as it peeked for the third time wheeling around to see Velvet with a huge head nodding smile on his face.... "yeah.... good condor"

I also love the setbreak music as supplied from the nero boys.... Freeway band from 96?? was it 96? Anyway... that was great, but all the rest of the music the Dekcuf played made me want to cry.... 2 nights in a row with the sound guy blasting Paradise City???? What the hell is that? Loser... And what is with the gangsta rap after the shows? I guess they just wanted us to leave... good way to accomplish that.... OH yeah... and what's with starting the music before the boys could play an encore? We hadn't heard a cover yet last night... I felt a first tube or peaches coming on.... dammit

    2 night stands rule! I had a blast..TMNS anyone?

  8. Something so right about seeing a show at the Cafe... I just love this room!! Can't beat the sound, the lights and the staff.... And at how many venues can you toke outside and still see and hear the band... I think I saw half the show from the deck.... says Dave-o from the deck while smoking and looking at the stage "I love this bar".... yeah..for sure... this is our perfect venue.

The Tummies.... everything I thought it would be and more.... I swear Todd could make a million dollars touring as a one man comedy/music show. Hilarious song writing and an unmatched stage presence.... maybe the sharpest wit around. Nice to see the nero boys being good roadies, moving mics and replacing patch cords for their manager as he turned a technical difficulty into a hilarious improv routine "I bought that patch cord at Lauzon's music"... hillarious!!. Nero with the Tummies for "My cat's on Crack" was stellar!

nero was tight as always... Dave even played his infamous third guitar, which was a treat. I tell ya, when the lighting guy gets into a song the effect is amazing. There were times during the show that the lights added a whole new layer to the nero madness.... smoke and lasers man... wow... To bad he would disappear for half an hour at a time. The highlight for me last night was Chocolate Monkey Machine. They played it near the end of the show and I was way to drunk to stand and dance but this was one of the bet CMM I have heard... Lauzons trippy intro over Shane's fat groove turned into a completely insane 15 or 20 minutes where nero took my brain to another planet! My only regret is that I know I won't hear CMM tonight when I plan on having a whole lot more energy!.....

Whitey Quote of the night, spoken to some unsuspecting newdie

"You may think I'm nuts.... but I'm a lot better now"
