  1. Edger, that article is horrifying - it's like the Tea Party runs Canada.  Ideology trumps the facts.

Good chance that we'll get stuck living in the US if Conservatives win again, they dismantled most of the funding for science research, which was the reason why we left in the first place.

    THE LOST FINGERS

By exercising remarkable musicianship, heavenly vocals and creative arrangements, along with a keen sense of humor and eccentric fashion, this quartet transforms pop/rock music classics performed in a Django gypsy jazz style with a hint of blue grass. Their creativity and virtuosity allows them to take the listener on a entertaining music journey through everything from AC/DC to Earth, Wind and Fire to Michael Jackson to Deee-lite to Dolly Parton to Daft Punk. This is a remarkable, high energy and fun show

Hear Here is a volunteer non-profit arts collective promoting literacy and the arts community in Toronto. Our goal is to organize popular, culturally significant events at different locations around the city. Each event involves bringing together local artists working in a variety of mediums, designing a dynamic space wherein to showcase their work, and collaborating to create an experience that is as enriching as possible to a broad demographic of patrons.

Why are we so special? Hear Here is a roaming Salon: each event is held in a different location around Toronto (office towers, commercial areas, store fronts, lobbies) but the precise location will not be released until shortly before the event. Instead, to give you a hint as to the hidden location, our Be Here page will be changing on a regular basis. As the event draws ever closer, the map of Toronto will gradually zero-in on Hear Here's new address. After each event, the map will return to show Toronto in full and then repeat the process for the next event's new location.

  4. I wasn't at Magna Balll but I've been hearing from multiple sources that the DJ Set on Sunday night was incredible.  I was pleased to find out it was Montreal's DJ Freeworm & Franky Selector formerly of the group National Parcs.

Here's a download of the DJ set, which features Souljazz Orchestra, Fatback Band, Gramatik, Phenomenal Hand clapping band, The Motet and more

The Fugitive Minds are a Toronto based Roots Reggae and Afrobeat band. They play original politically and spiritually charged music along with some Reggae and Afrobeat classics’.  The band has played many of Toronto’s hot spots like:  Lee's Palace, The Rivoli, The Handlebar, Mosquito and Bite, The Hotbox Cafe, Annette Studios, The Chillwomb, and The Only Cafe.

  6. I was surprised that Mayer discovered the Dead a mere 4 years ago.  He's 37 now, but how could you escape hearing songs like Truckin' and Casey Jones on classic rock radio, or be oblivious to the bumper stickers, tie-dye T-shirts & US cultural significance of the band?

Interesting that they originally called themselves 'Los Muertos' - although I think Dead & Company is a better name, at least should cement that they are playing Grateful Dead songs, not a new project that has new songs or one that is playing Mayer's hits.
  7. Just got fwd'd an email from Concert Joe's NYC show list:

The END of the GRATEFUL DEAD as We Know It !

The NIGHTMARE has come True !

Next, they'll get Taylor Swift to sing the Donna Godcheaux parts and Justin Bieber to do the Pigpen parts.

Then we'll have ryan seacrest introduce the band on american idol.

Having John Mayer replace GARCIA surely has JERRY rolling in his Grave.

    I won't be there !

    It's against my Religion.

    Just announced.

No Phil... he's playing a sold out show that night at Capitol Theatre.

Overheard: "Phil quit the Dead" -Col Bruce Hampton, "Oteil will replace him."

Not sure how I feel about this since they said Farewell, but its in my city so probably a no brainer.

  9. Hey Friends,

my boys the House of David Gang are headed on summer tour this summer, it's a crazy 26+ date tour throughout BC and Alberta.  The band is touring behind their new single "Rock & Roll Queen" and are hooking up with former Wassabi Collective vocalist Gisto.

Should be a pretty wild time, I wish I could be on the road for this!  If you know anyone in these cities and they are reggae lovers, please let them know.

    Cheers,

    Jay
