Nashville, TN – Heavily celebrated Grammy Award winning band Old Crow Medicine Show has announced their upcoming new album Remedy, due out July 1 via ATO Records. Remedy is full of catchy melodies, quirky and often humorous lyrics, all executed with mesmerizing musicianship. Ten years after the massive success of folk anthem “Wagon Wheelâ€, which started as a track on a Bob Dylan work tape later finished by fiddler/band leader Ketch Secor, Remedy features a new Dylan/Old Crow penned collaboration on the new track “Sweet Amarillo†one of the album’s many highlights. Remedy also features the return of producer Ted Hutt (Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Gaslight Anthem), who produced 2012’s highly praised Carry Me Back.

Long before the resurgence of folk and roots rock, Old Crow Medicine Show was performing their fiery style of amped up old-time music, cultivating a diverse fan base who thrive on the band’s energetic performances. The songs on Remedy are chock full of the same raw energy, swagger and drive that has made rabid fans of everyone from hipsters to college students to traditional music purists. “This is country music for people who think country music needs a whoopin'’ says Secor, who adds, “Country music that knows how deep its roots run--- from the dirtiest blues to the folkiest folk, the songwriters, the crooners and the Outlaws, to the Opry stage; it's all hereâ€. Kicking off with "Brushy Mountain Conjugal Trailerâ€, a new take on the classic prison tale, the band then launches into the hyper speed "8 Dogs 8 Banjos" a timeless original that could have been penned ages ago, but with more fire. Though Old Crow Medicine Show is loved for their fast and furious up-tempo numbers, they shine brightly on the ballads including the touching "Dearly Departed Friend" and Critter Fuqua’s “Firewaterâ€.

In support of their upcoming release, the band has announced their biggest headlining tour ever with stops including Red Rocks, The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (Atlanta), The Philadelphia Folk Festival and London’s incredible performance space The Roundhouse. Opening acts for the tour include critically praised folk duo Shovels & Rope, Hurray For The Riff Raff, and Parker Millsap who will be opening all of the band’s UK dates. For a complete list of tour dates see below.

Old Crow Medicine Show's story is truly one of building a career from the ground up. While busking in the North Carolina town of Boone, they were discovered by folk icon Doc Watson. Since then the band has toured the world, received mass critical praise, and sold over 800,000 albums. The band’s single “Wagon Wheel†received the RIAA’s platinum certification for selling over one million copies, and they were recently asked to become the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry. The band was also a part of the Big Easy Express tour and documentary along with Mumford & Sons and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. They were awarded a Grammy for "Best Long Form Music Video" for their part in the film.

One of many things that set Old Crow Medicine Show apart is the way they have earned the respect of both their peers and influences while also influencing the new guard of folk-rock revivalists. While trends have come and gone, Old Crow Medicine Show continues to be a strong and steady force in roots music.

    About Keller Williams

Those who’ve followed Keller Williams’ recording career to date know that he has given each of his albums a single-syllable title: FREEK, BUZZ, SPUN, BREATHE, LOOP, LAUGH, HOME, DANCE, STAGE, GRASS, DREAM, TWELVE, REX, LIVE, ODD, THIEF, KIDS, BASS, PICK, KEYS and FUNK. Each title serves not only as a concise summation of the concept guiding the particular project but also as another piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is Keller Williams. GRASS, for example, is a bluegrass recording, cut with the husband-wife duo the Keels. STAGE is a live album and DREAM the end product of a wish list: Keller collaborating with some of his greatest musical heroes. THIEF is a set of unexpected cover songs. And KIDS offers up, you guessed it, Williams’ first and possibly only children’s record.

The naming trend has continued with 2012’s BASS and PICK, respectively a set of songs where Keller plays bass and William’s collaboration with royal bluegrass family The Travelin’ McCourys. In 2013 – Keller released FUNK with his newest collaboration – a six-piece funk outfit – More Than a Little. What all of the titles reveal, when taken together, is an artist of great stylistic breadth and infinite imagination, a singer, songwriter and musician, always on a quest for the new. Keller Williams has never followed the prescribed path laid out by the conventional music business, nor has he taken the prescribed meds laid out by his team of conventional doctors. Instead, he has taken the A.D.D. path (Artistic, Determined, Dedication). It’s a path that has served him quite well.

Since he first appeared on the scene in the early ’90s, Williams has defined the term independent artist. And his recordings tell only half the story. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. For most of his career he has performed solo. His stage shows are rooted around Keller singing his compositions and choice cover songs, while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. With the use of today’s technology, Keller creates samples on the fly in front of the audience, a technique called live phrase sampling or looping, With nothing pre-recorded, the end result often leans toward a hybrid of alternative folk and groovy electronica. A genre Keller jokingly calls “acoustic dance music†or ADM.â€

That approach, Williams explains, was derived from “hours of playing solo with just a guitar and a microphone, and then wanting to go down different avenues musically. I couldn’t afford humans and didn’t want to step into the cheesy world of automated sequencers where you hit a button and the whole band starts to play, then you’ve got to solo along or sing on top of it. I wanted something more organic yet with a dance groove that I could create myself.â€

Williams’ solo live shows—and his ability to improvise to his determinedly quirky tunes despite the absence of an actual band—quickly became the stuff of legend, and his audience grew exponentially when word spread about this exciting, unpredictable performer. Once he began releasing recordings, starting with 1994’s FREEK, Williams was embraced by an even wider community of music fans, particularly the jam band crowd. While his live gigs have largely been solo affairs, Williams has nearly always used his albums as a forum for collaborations with fellow musicians. An alliance with The String Cheese Incident on 1999’s BREATHE marked Williams’ first release on the band’s label SCI Fidelity Records, an imprint he still partners with today for recordings. DREAM, Keller’s 2007 release, found him in the company of such iconic musicians as the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, banjo master Béla Fleck, bass great Victor Wooten, American musician/poet Michael Franti and many others.

On Saturday July 12th at the venerable Phoenix Concert Theatre, Nufunk Concerts and Uma Nota Culture are honoured to announce the return of the world’s living Afrobeat king Seun Kuti; his first Toronto show since his legendary show at Harbourfront Centre in 2008. The son of Afrobeat originator, the immortal Fela Kuti, Seun will be showcasing songs from his potent new Robert Glasper-produced album A Long Way to the Beginning (Knitting Factory Records), as well as songs from his father’s massive recorded catalogue live. It’s a celebration of African music not to be missed!

Seun Kuti has been performing on stage since he was nine years old. He started his career as a backup singer in Egypt 80, the band fronted by his father Fela Kuti, the king of Afrobeat. Seun had already started taking piano lessons and teaching himself to play saxophone. But on stage with his father he only ever sang, adding his child's voice to the chorus of male and female backup singers that included his mother, the collective response to Fela's persistent call.

When Fela died in 1997, Seun, then just fifteen, was ready to take over. Since then, he has led Egypt 80 as lead vocalist and saxophonist, the focal point of a band that his father had forged into Africa's most legendary ensemble.

    NuFunkMain1.jpg

Excerpt of bio by Jane Cornwell

1, 2, 3, 4… with a clenched fist and a blast of his alto-sax, Seun Kuti launches into ‘IMF’, the opening track on A Long Way To The Beginning – his tightest, most electrifying album yet. This time around no one escapes the Afrobeat warrior’s ire: not corrupt Nigerian leaders or sly western powers. Not bankers, corporate greedheads or any lying, cheating international mother***ker anywhere.

It’s been a struggle to get to now. There were those who criticized his decision to front his father’s band; who said it was arrogant, even hubristic, to try and fill his father’s shoes. This was never Seun’s aim: “Fela will always be Number One,†says the Lagos-based scion, who inherited the extraordinary Egypt 80 orchestra in 1997 when his father died.

And so Fela’s youngest child has full-steamed ahead with his own inimitable brand of Afrobeat: a sound as compelling as it was when Fela Anikulapo Kuti first fused jazz, funk and soul with highlife and other African rhythms - but with topical lyrics and contemporary influences giving it a modern twist. So far there have been two critically acclaimed albums: 2008’s Many Things and 2011’s From Africa With Fury: Rise.

With A Long Way To The Beginning, we’ve arrived where the journey starts.

“This is the beginning of the reign of Afrobeat music,†says Kuti. “Afrobeat is not just about being Fela’s son anymore. There are hundreds of bands playing Afrobeat around the world, from Australia to Israel to the US. What began with my father has become a global movement.†And A Long Way To The Beginning is at its vanguard. Co-produced by the Grammy-winning American jazz pianist Robert Glasper, the album features a clutch of young artists from the African diaspora – the singer Nneka, rappers M-1 of dead prez and Blitz the Ambassador. It’s a recording that lassos all the passion, adrenalin and searing truth of a Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 live show.

“A Very Special Evening With Dave Matthews Band†Will Feature The Group Performing Two Sets Each Night In 2013, Rolling Stone put Dave Matthews Band on its list of the “50 Greatest Live Acts Right Now,†observing, “Two decades in, DMB still know how to surprise their fans.†The group’s 2014 North American summer tour may be its most surprising yet.

“A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band†will feature the group delivering two sets per evening, performing songs from throughout its career. Dave Matthews Band will wind through numerous configurations – from electric to acoustic, from full-throttle numbers featuring the entire band to more intimate moments featuring small groups of band members – including a stripped-down pairing of Matthews with guitarist Tim Reynolds, performing as an acoustic duo, as they occasionally do when the band is off the road. A variety of guests will join the band throughout the summer.

"I was talking to Carter about how much I still like just sitting around playing music together. It's how we started – in the basements of Carter's and my mom's houses,†says vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews. “Our shows are loose, but we started thinking that maybe this summer we should make them looser and bring some of that feeling to the stage. It seems like the opposite of a safe plan, so why not?"

“Everyone was really psyched about the idea, so we’ve been busy figuring out how to turn it into the best possible experience for our fans,†says drummer Carter Beauford.

Last summer’s Dave Matthews Band run topped Billboard’s Hot Tours chart in September 2013. The Dallas News noted, “the band’s musicianship deserves undivided attention…For nearly three hours that organic blend of instruments, voices and songs swept through a crowd eager to spend all night with the Dave Matthews Band.â€

“The only reliable Dave Matthews Band set list is a dart board with the group’s entire 22-year-old discography. And that, my friends, is a good thing – for the fans and the band,†said Cleveland’s Plain Dealer. “Each night is a new night, a new beginning for us all…Like life, which really has no straight roads, a DMB show is a journey down twisting and turning byways. The difference is that there are no speed bumps, no orange barrels, but there ARE plenty of fascinating side roads.â€

Dave Matthews Band has sold a collective 37 million CDs and DVDs combined. The group has teamed up again with Rob Cavallo, who produced 2009’s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, to record a new album that will be released later this year. With Away From The World entering the Billboard 200 at No. 1 in 2012, Dave Matthews Band became the first group in chart history to have six consecutive studio albums debut atop the chart. The band ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade and has sold over 19 million tickets since its inception.
