House of David Gang on Tour this February!

Throughout their career House of David Gang has been known for their uplifting roots rock reggae sound reminiscent of Kingston, Jamaica's music scene in the late 70's & 80's mixed with a modern rootsy Canadian feel. The band takes its name from The House of David, an after-hours spot on Queen Street West in Toronto, Canada that was a Rasta hotspot for reasoning, dancing and reggae music from the late 80s until the mid 90s.

After a hiatus in which lead singer King Selah went solo, the band re-energized in 2004 with a revamped line-up and toured relentlessly to clubs & festivals building a cult-like grassroots following. Emerging from bass player/producer Snappy Homefry's Playhouse Studios after collaborations with over 20 musicians from Canada’s reggae community and with the wisdom of 20 years of songwriting, performing and recording Toronto roots rock reggae orchestra House of David Gang officially release their best album yet: Reggae Warrior on NuFunk.ca Records.

Watch the band perform "Rain" live on CityTV's Breakfast Television

After nearly 350 hours of studio time at Toronto’s Playhouse Studios with producer Snappy Homefry and collaborations with over 20 musicians from Toronto’s reggae community, plus the funding support of the Ontario Arts Council Popular Music Program and FACTOR, Toronto roots rock reggae orchestra House of David Gang officially release Reggae Warrior on NuFunk.ca Records.

Throughout their career House of David Gang has been known for their uplifting roots rock reggae sound reminiscent of Kingston, Jamaica's music scene in the late 70's & 80's highly influenced by the works of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs mixed with a modern roots Canadian feel. The band takes its name from The House of David, an after-hours spot on Queen Street West that was a hotspot for artists from the city's burgeoning Rastafarian and reggae community from the late 80s until the mid 90s.

House of David captivated audiences this summer at Rastafest to over 4,000 fans alongside The Mighty Diamonds and Echo Minott; has garnered national attention on CBC Radio; and performed live to 2 million people on CityTV’s Breakfast Television performing their new songs, including the new single "Best I Can Be". The band recently made its first West Coast tour to British Columbia, with gigs in Vancouver, Whistler, Courtenay and Nanaimo, after a 5-date tour of Quebec and the Maritimes earlier this summer.

  3. Hi Folks,

So this past year has been a little transitional, I was rocking some great Canadian Projects... NuJazz Festival, Evolve Festival, House of David Gang CD Release, Havana Cultura, shows with Jose James, Lee Fields, Afrika Bambaataa, Stickybuds, A.Skillz, Fat Cats, Easy Star All-Stars etc... all the while living in Manhattan. It was a little crazy with so much traveling and being away from my wife.

Now I'm focusing on finding a job here in NYC, if any of you have any contacts in the music, events, marketing or sponsorship industry or any general tips etc.. that would be great.

Will keep you posted on my progress. Please wish me luck!

    -J

  4. I met Lance on a couple occasions. Once after a gig the Aaron MacDonald Band did with Nero circa 2002 or 2003, The band stayed up with him, his brother or brother in law and his dog and had our own little all night party.

Lance had so many stories and he'd be talking so fast and for so long that we all couldn't help but loose concentration on what he was saying.

He was definitely a kind spirited man and I'm sure a legend of Rock n Roll in Canada. He's not a man that you could easily forget. I saw him do the door, tend to the bar, adjust the sound and still have time to play with the lights... he was an incredible host and I'm sure it's a huge loss to Ottawa Music Scene.

I will say though there's a hard living side to Lance and I can't only surmise that it caught up to him in the end.

Lots of love to you Lance - you're a original RIP.
