  1. I caught about 3-4 songs of them, I thought the whole mask /video sync/dual drum kit/weird instrument thing was interesting as well, but it seemed like the wrong setting for them. The kicking over the mic stand thing, I think as soon as he did that he realized it was a bit over the top, and the guitarist actually picked it back up as soon as he got a chance. In a smokey club with dancing I think it would be a very cool vibe. My wife even thought they were pretty cool, and I wouldn't usually expect her to be into that sort of stuff, so I thought that spoke well for them also.

Overall I'd say Yay, not the best performance ever but good enough that I'd certainly see 'em again.

  2. Hey folks, got back into TO in one piece after a fantastic weekend! 'Twas a privilege sharing the stage with some incredibly talented folks. Thanks to everyone we hung with this weekend who treated me and my wife Karen so well, and most especially Ms. Hux and Bouche for inviting us up in the first place and their amazing hospitality.

See some of you in a couple of weeks at the Ottawa free-fest deal.

    :D :D :D

  4. Hey folks!

The same could be said of city dwellers who don't want to pay for county side roads and sewage treatment in Bancroft. Yet when all those city denizens get off for the weekend a good number of them traverse those county roads to get to their cottages and getaways.

This is a fair comment Zero, but unfortunately only applies to a small percentage of folks. I only know a few people living in Toronto who trek up to cottage country regularly, but many more of them who use the TTC every day. And what of the millions of tourists who come to Toronto every year to be greeted by our pathetic excuse for a waterfront? The truth is the provincial and federal government have given a bum rap to cities for years, including great western cities like Vancouver and Calgary. I'm very concerned about rural issues too, that's where my wife is from and my in-laws live, but the truth is Canada goes as our cities go, and they ain't going well at the moment. Hopefully Mr. Layton and others that care about municipalities can push their agendas a bit more in the new minority government. My two-cents.

    Peace,

    Mr. M.

  5. Hey there! A VERY last minute Uncle Seth show to tell ya 'bout:

    Holy Joe's

651 Queen St. W. (upstairs from Reverb)

    Wednesday, June 22 2004 (yup, that's TOMORROW!)

Doors at 9 pm, $5 cover

The Sethers are opening for our friends The Zak Sheppard Band (http://www.zaksheppard.com/) who lost their original opener. Zak's band features Seth alumnus Mark "Drummer-Boy" Kitchen and a bunch of other smokin' musicians, and always put on a great show.

So hey, if you're free tomorrow, come on out for a great night of rock'n'roll!

    Peace,

    Mr. M.

  6. FYI I got a reply to my message from Crispin saying "stay tuned to your inbox, there will be some emails floating around in the near future that will give you a forum to speak your voice on this issue." So there may be hope yet.

I'll let y'all know as I hear more, I'm off to 'roo tomorrow but I'll touch base on this next week if there's any updates. Other folks who have connections with the club (such as Jon and others reading this who've played there), I'd suggest dropping Crispin a line as well. I don't want to overwhelm him at this point but those who already know him contacting him to voice their support probably can't hurt.

  7. I used to like the Bier Markt, they had some decent bands, it was never full. Now people line up around the block to get in, and a dress code is in effect.

There's a dress code at the Bier Markt now?!? Wow, I guess I haven't been there in a while. That's a real shame, I loved that place too, nothing like a wheat beer sampler and sausage plate on the patio on a hot summer day.

It really is a shame, that whole 'hood was cool exactly because it was less trendy than most of Queen or College, that's why I always liked going down there. Now that I'm working on Front, I was hoping to spend more time at some of those places this summer but not if I've got to dress-up or line-up! And particularly not if C'est What is getting rid of their fantastic live music.

I'm so outta there in 5 weeks!

You moving Trevor? Where you headed?

    - M.
