Caught Barr Bros opening for War on Drugs last week in Germany. Great show. Barr Bros were well received by a crowd that basically didn't know them.
Northern Wish, I think you're referring to Queens of the Breakers (title track), right? Thought that the first time I heard it as well, which was right here:

If you like the slip and other jazzy electronic this is for you

Saw them last night here in Brighton, and about 4 years ago at a festival. Definitely worth checking out live. Their new albums have really influenced their live set, and they jump a lot between their older more folk-driven stuff and the newer more electric psychedelic stuff. Creates a nice variety IMO. Remind me a bit of Megafaun in that way.

Hope someone's going to be rolling tape (or bits) at this tonight! Brad M?

Gov't Mule at Cabaret in Montreal. Level 6 loud.

Only a handful of tracks in, and have listened to the early release tracks, and I have to say, by "tribute album" standards, this is really solid. Interesting reinterpretations, stellar set of artists, and only a few that really fall flat. Rubin & Cherise is just amazing.

Easily a dozen acts I'd love to see in that lineup. Can't say the same for Bluesfest, that's for sure.

just a heads up, the Gatineau show is almost sold out. Got a pair today and they were up in the nosebleeds

Who the heck are The Gene Clark No Other Band and why have I not heard of them before now?
I said the same thing to myself then checked it out. Sounds cool!
No Other is the 1974 album by Gene Clark, a founding member of the the Byrds. At the time of its release, it was viewed as a critical and commercial failure, but over time, it's become a cult favorite. Next month, that album will be celebrated on a brief tour where it'll be performed note-for-note by a supergroup featuring Beach House, plus members of Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, the Walkmen, and more. The band will include Beach House's Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. Lead vocal duties will be handled by Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold, Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen, the Walkmen's Hamilton Leithauser, Iain Matthews of Plainsong/Fairport Convention, and Legrand. The rest of the band features Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner, plus members of Lower Dens, Cass McCombs' band, Celebration, and Mt. Royal.

Thinking this might be my festival this summer (again). Bluesfest lineup not doing much for me.

Hey Blane
I visited Gyeongju today.
Thanks for the recommendation, what an amazing place!
That's exactly the Korea I was hoping to witness.
On a sad note, 10 university students were killed there last night when a roof collapsed while they were at a concert at a resort.
It has been snowing here all day and a few days ago they had a massive snowfall that is being blamed for the accident.
I'm off to Changwon tomorrow and then to the south of China next week to Guangzhou. Population 13 million.
I end this trip back in Cebu, Philippines.
It will be great to see all the beautiful people I met there last spring. Especially after the terrible typhoon that hit in November.
Bring on the tropics!
Just spotted this. Glad you enjoyed it! I have fond memories as well. Happy trails!

thanks brad. was looking for something on tonight and this might do the trick!

kathleen edwards at the manx? Really? shame I'll be away!

Anybody else up for this? Great band to see live.
16 bucks.

No, Gwangju is north of Busan. It's the old capital (like, thousands of years ago) and has a lot of very cool historical interest.
give the steamed silkworm larvae a try if you're interested in strange food (bon dae gi). THey sell it on the streets all over the place there.
-
if you haven't been to Gyongju yet, definitely visit. Very cool. Cheju do is nice, though not terribly exciting. Hiking in Korea is honestly some of the best hiking I've ever done. Chirisan is a great hike, and Seoraksan is very nice as well. You can visit the terracotta warriors in Xian, China, which is close. Then there's loads of cool spots in Japan (too many to name). Hope this is a start.

just got one. Looking forward to it!

yeah, the Dino Jr option is frustrating. On at the same time as Belle and Sebastian, whom I also like. Will have to test my mood before the sets start and decide.
Thanks for the other suggestions, will check some out!
