When does it start and finish? Are they announcing it or do you just have to be "in the know?"
  4. Nice! 25% pay hike! That's fantastic! http://www.canada.com/topics/finance/story.html?id=9fedde78-c6a4-4fd9-8409-3ee4b70e0c28&k=45746
  5. I think that's Photoshopped. Was that already aparent to everyone? Look at the way her left hand is touching the box. It just doesn't look natural.
  6. We need a Codetalkers forum!!! Come on now! Please?!?! They're easily better than the Slip so let's do it!
  7. Is finally here! This is it baby! It all starts getting better from this point forward! Each day a little more light! Summer here we come! Happy Solstice! It is interesting to note that the actual Solstice, the point at which the sun is the furthest away from the equatorial plane and during winter, the furthest away from us, is tomorrow morning at 12:22am. Anyone going to be awake?
  8. This is completely out of control! http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/ConcertDetail.aspx?id=20049671|2164 Concert Summary Don Baldwin - drums Mickey Thomas - vocals, percussion Johnny Bee - guitar Michael "Fly" Brooks - bass Billy Slais - keyboards, saxophone Elvin Bishop - vocals, guitar Bay Area mainstay, Elvin Bishop had a smokin’ hot backing band in place when he recorded this timeless performance at New York’s Bottom Line club in 1976. Signed to Capricorn Records, the home of Southern Rock, Elvin Bishop offers up a hot set of country flavored blues-rock at this show. Bishop, a former member of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, had a cult following until he aligned with Capricorn, who found him a #1 hit single, “Fooled Around And Fell In Love.†This performance, however, is closer to Bishop’s musical heart, and has more to do with the Southern rock vibe created by The Allmans and the Marshall Tucker Band than it does with commercial pop hits. Bishop lets his band jump into the spotlight often, with keyboardist Clive Brooks and guitarist Johnny Bee grabbing many of the solos. Bishop balances intense musical performances with light-hearted dialogue, as is apparent on songs like "Fishin’," where he tells a lengthy tale of how the band went fishing and the guitarist, drunk on Jack Daniels, kept scaring the fish away. Vocalist Mickey Thomas would soon leave Bishop’s band and take drummer Don Baldwin with him. In 1978 he and Baldwin were asked to join Jefferson Starship when it became a rock ’n’ roll hit factory known simply as Starship. Musically, the highlight of this show is the band’s high energy version of “Joy,†which mixes gospel, blues, rock and funk into one cohesive song. Bishop’s lyrics on his popular country-rock romp, “Travelin’ Shoes,†is anything but politically correct, yet back then you could hear lyrics such as these on the radio: “I talk and talk and talk and she doesn’t hear a word I said; Let me get my baseball bat and send her out of her head...â€
  9. That makes complete sense. Thanks Greg.
  10. Awesome! I wish I could make it but this time of year is just about impossible for such things. Have a great show!
  11. Check out this rare old picture that my sister passed along to me. I guess it was really cold for a really long time in 1911.

    The Johns?

Just read this in a MMW e-mail message: "In July, John Medeski and John Scofield will tour as a duet! "The Johns" will tour Europe together. Concerts are being confirmed now. More details to come." Wow. I'd like to hear that.
  13. Wait a minute. What the hell does she mean that "Santa isn't real?"

  15. That's not true actually. A year or so ago, an independant study revealed that wikipedia was at least as accurate as the print version of Encyclopedia Britannica.
  16. Serioulsy though; this should be moved to the Slip forum. Let's keep everything nice and compartmentalized. We don't want any cross-pollination. I don't get it actually: You obviously saw this thread yet it wasn't moved. Do you need some help moderating? Are there set rules for what gets moved? This one seems obvious.
  17. Rumour has it that the incomparable Ricky Neu will be on the kit with the Bluebudzz tonight instead of John McCann who cannot make it due to family obligations. Look out KW!
  18. Any chance that someone could record this for me? I can't make it up there and I'd really like a recording of all the bands. A simple soundboard would be wonderful. Anyone? I'll offer to do all the post-recording work.

    Its here

Yes, that is true. It is a 'scotch-style' whisky. From wiki: To be called Scotch whisky, the spirit must conform to the standards of the Scotch Whisky Order of 1990 (UK), which clarified the Scotch Whisky Act of 1988, and mandates that the spirit: - Must be distilled at a Scottish distillery from water and malted barley, to which only other whole grains may be added, have been processed at that distillery into a mash, converted to a fermentable substrate only by endogenous enzyme systems, and fermented only by the addition of yeast, - Must be distilled to an alcoholic strength of less than 94.8% by volume so that it retains the flavour of the raw materials used in its production, - Must be matured in Scotland in oak casks for not less than three years and a day, and Must not contain any added substance other than water and caramel colour. - May not be bottled at less than 40% alcohol by volume. That's an excellent bottle of scotch as well. I recently finished a bottle that a friend bought for me so that I'd be able to have a scotch while visiting him. I found, that with a little water it really opened up nicely. I normally consume my scotch neat. However, Leanne bought me a bottle of cask-strength Lagavulin for Christmas last year and I didn't really enjoy it until I added a little water. After that, it was the most glorious thing I have ever tasted.
