Courtney pretty much ripped off Patti Smith along with a dose of Chrissie Hynde. As pipes go, few can touch Ann Wilson, male of female. Patti kicks Courtney's junky white ass.

Man, I thought the Habs were going to blowout the Bruins. I was both impressed with Montreal's tenacious forecheck and disgusted with Boston's d-zone play. Game 5 should be interesting.

Happy OT/double-time for me. Gotta work until 7pm, but the bonus money and the Bruins and Hawks winning last night make today pretty painless.

You know what I love about TSOOL?
They actually play guitars and dont have any of that blip blap bleepity bullshit that is dominating the soundscape right now. TSOOL get drunk and rockthefuckout because they are a rock and roll band.
Remember when music was actually cool and didnt have to give off the air of being cool? That's what you get with TSOOL.
And for any of these 80's wanna-be preprogrammed electronic strains of disco bands? A good chunk of that shit sucked then and it sucks now. GFY.
Beautiful on every level.

I would definitely read the first four books before watching the series, they are glorious.
I hear great things about them. I love that author George R.R. Martin has written several of this season's upcoming scripts as has the awesome Jane Espenson (Buffy,Firefly, DS9, BSG and Torchwood).

Lee's is an ideal venue for them, although they are at home on big stages too. I gotta work the night shift that night. Bloody fucking hell!!
-
I don't hear the Dead in The National's music at all, but it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Fuck off Dave.

I've been waiting for this for two years (I have it recorded too and will watch it tonight). The books are revered in the fantasy genre. Game of Thrones, on the strength of the pilot and upcoming episode screeners, was renewed a few days ago by HBO for a second season. The reviews have been across the board great as were the ratings for EPS. 1.
This is a good primer and scroll down to the blurbs from the press such as EW, NY Times etc...

It is bad timing work wise, but I'll phone in sick if I can.

I checked Imaginary Cities out before the gig on YouTube and liked some of their songs. But I skipped them since the 1st period of the Bruins-Habs game was on at Fran's.

Jesse Litsch optioned to Vegas.

Awesome - checking it tonight. Was there an opener? What time did they actually hit? THx!
The opening band came on just after 8 and the Pixies hit the stage at around 9:05.

Santiago's guitar adds most of the instrumental melodies. He's more minimilist/selective and is pretty innovative in the way he balances distortion, feedback and feel with melody - and thankfully he's not prone to jammy bullshit.

I agree on Franks voice and Joeys playing but not Kim. In Ottawa she looked like she was just going through the motions.
She introduced the first three songs with either "The B Sides!" or "Another B Side!!". Ho Hum.
Ottawa was really really loud too.
Were you at last night's show? She was smiling and laughing during many songs. She did most of the talking; her playing and singing was spot-on too.

Great great show! The Massey Hall crowd was in impressive form throughout. The band really rocked it out and Joey Santiago was fucking brilliant. Frank's voice has never aged and Kim looked like she was having lots of fun. They did Doolittle justice, and then some.
I feel as tired as Kim Deal waking up after a late '80s bender.

I'm debating whether to sneak-drink some cans of Kronenbourg 1664 while I'm at work. I'm heading to the show after my shift ends at 7pm.

I just watched that Robinson skit on Comedy Gold. He was pretty good.
-
Not a bad lineup but I'd rather see EELS and PS I Love You on their own and not at this festival.
-
I'm in Jack Layton's riding and he'll soundly win again, although Liberal candidate Andrew Lang has been making a name for himself since the last election.

Bautista looked bad with a throwing error and losing the ball in the lights, but he got a key base hit and subsequently scored from first base the tying run. I like that he's getting on base fairly steadily.
I was impressed with Drabek's poise in getting out of jams and Nix's homer was awesome.

I used to occassionally hang out with James Sharman back when I was going to Ryerson in the early to mid `90s and he had s watered-down accent even back then. He told me then that he emmigrated to Canada when he was fairly young, but his accent stuck (this was years before he got a job in his field). I found this hard to believe, but its been good for his career. And I've noticed its gotten thicker in recent years. Having a British accent shouldn't mean you get an on-air employment edge.

Astonishingly unentertaining game. I've never seen a good team shoot as bad as Butler did tonight. UCONN played good D, but they weren't any fun to watch nor did they particularly well all-round either. Howard shot his slim NBA hopes in the foot. He didn't look like he wanted the ball.

Wrong once again? I'll take that as a compliment coming from a Phishhead.
And you are a lunatic if you can't recognize Patti's influence. Of course, her husband helped her out a bit too. I'm not a Courtney hater by any stretch. I think the second Hole album is outstanding and Courtney is a fantastic rock front woman (perhaps the best of her generation), but it looks like her relevance is nearing an end, at least commercially.
