I'll be at the Comfort Zone on February 8th. It'll be a great end to a great week of concerts: Galactic at the Opera House on Feb. 5th; the Down From The Mountain Bluegrass Festival at the Air Canada Centre on Feb. 6th; and Nero. I only caught about 2 riffs from one of Nero's G & L guitars last summer at the CanJam Festival and I'm ready to hear more. I looking forward to hearing Nero's version of " Peaches En Regalia "!

I'm looking forward to Rich Robinson solo material. He writes all the music in the Crowes so a solo album should be interesting. A youngish Keith Richards ( sans the hard " stuff " ) with a funk-Allmans ear and attitude. Hopefully he can become a good lead singer. He's a pretty good back-up singer with the Crowes. I'm not sure if Kate Hudson was the whisperer in Chris's ear, but he's been married a year and the band is suddenly on " hiatus ". They were the only " real " ( semi-commercial ) rock band left in the States, other than Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls. I'm obviously kidding about the last two bands.

As reported on tonight's Citytv newscast, The Crowes have broken up. I wonder if Kate Hudson had anything to do with this? This sucks because I think they were making good musical strides in the last few years - I really like their last studio album and their live cd with Jimmy Page. I bet Rich and Kate butted heads a few too many times for Chris and the band to go on. Again, this sucks!

Anything from the Siket Disc.

I forgot one: The Beta Band was a great surprise for me in 2001 - I loved them opening for Radiohead in Barrie; loved them in the movie High Fidelity; and I love their cds. A great band worth checking out.
-
The biggest and brightest surprise for me this year was Buddy Guy's new cd " Sweet Tea ". This cd is as raw and heavy as it gets, and it jams as good as any cd in the last 10 years! Eric Clapton take note.
Honourable Mentions:
Jimmy Swift - very innovative and fun
Oysterhead - don't stop with just one album
The Strokes - Television meets The Replacements
International Noise Conspiracy - this band rocks
Ghost World - great movie
Memento - very interesting movie
Mickey Hart is still an asshole
Felix Trinidad lost
Hendrix is getting better with every new release
Jommama - getting better all the time
Alvin Youngblood Hart
Minnesota Vikings suck
The Word - buy it now
Giggles is a fine guitarist - a little too Jerry though
Phishsanctuary.com is improving all the time
Note: Oh yeah, whatever happened to Jimmy Butler?

Thanks for tainting my post. I was going to create a Best Of 2001 later on tonight. I want worst in this section.

Since the year is almost over, I'd like to start an informal poll citing the worst artist/band of the year. The only criteria is that the artist/band had to release something during the 2001 year. Note: I'd like to eliminate artists like NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Britney etc... because I don't think they are serious artists, but if you want to include them, that's fine too.
These 5 artists really bothered me this year:
1. Creed (too awful for words).
2. Aerosmith (brutal new album from a coasting 70's band).
3. Nelly Furtado (her annoying personality transcends into her music).
4. Diana Krall(arrogance without originality is pretty tough to take).
5. The Tea Party (see Diana Krall).
Honourable Mentions: No Doubt (I hate that obnoxious Gwen Stefani, and her band is not Ska); Limp Bizkit (annual favourite); Edwin (he would have made it, but he didn't have an album out this year); Our Lady Peace (I can't take Raine Maida's self-love... and his singing voice).

I'll be there. Tickets are only $8.00 - what a bargain. I'll be there.

Yes, it's directed by Cameron Crowe. It's an English language re-make of a Brazilian movie also starring Penelope Cruz.
-
I can get you that show Andre. It aired recently on MuchMusic.
-
Hey Giggles, you can get Live In Paris in most Toronto HMVs. I own it and it really rocks. Eric Dolphy was a great addition to Trane's line-up.
-
22. Deadheads kept snobby Phishheads ( and there are lots of 'em ) in check.
-
That's right folks, Galactic is playing the Opera House on February 5th. Let's hope they don't cancel like they did last time. I'm going to this show for sure.
-
5 great cds come to mind that are lost and/or misplaced and I desparately want back: Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow - Funkadelic; Guit With It and Semi-Crazy - Junior Brown; Gov't Mule Live At The Roseland Ballroom; and Let It Bleed - The Stones. I know Let It Bleed is in Japan, so I've kissed that one good-bye long ago. I haven't kissed the other missing cds good-bye yet.

If you haven't seen this little 1974 concert film from pre-Dark Side Of The Moon Floyd, tune into MuchMoreMusic this Thursday Dec 13TH at 10pm. It's killer. I'm watching/pre-viewing it at work right now - I repeat: IT'S KILLER!! I'm not a drug user of any kind and this concert's fucking with my head. Note: The Beastie Boys' video " Gratiude " was a direct rip-off/tribute to this concert film.
-
" Kick Out The Jams " by the MC5. " Maggot Brain " by Funkadelic. " My Generation " or " I'm A Boy " would add a sense of humour to the event.
-
The only two reasons to watch Saturday Night Live. The Strokes are a great new band.

Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi were married yesterday at Amelia Island in Florida. The service was performed by Aubrey Ghent, a pedal steel guitar player, who is also an ordained minister. The newlyweds are expecting their first child, a son, this spring.
I bet this kid will come out jamming. With almsot no women guitarists out there, Susan's a good blues talent - along with Ottawa's own Sue Foley. I believe Derek is a lot younger than Susan too?

That is funny Velvet, but Blair is hardly an A-list celebrity - even when Facts of Life was on the air. You'd think the show's producers could get better guests, considering Toronto is crawling with actors and international musical acts. I've met Bullard a few years ago. At the time, he was a nice guy - no ego. I talked to a few pro-comics last week at a comedy night - they all said that he's turned into a prick. I could care less if he's a prick and his show's good, but his show ain't good.
-
The funniest thing about Mike Bullard ( and his program ), is the names of his " upcoming " guests displayed on his show's billboard at Davenport and Younge in Toronto. I live across the street from Bullard's studio and I always get a chuckle out of his show's nightly line-up. His program shamelessly self-promotes any crappy show owned by CTV: i.e., Comedy Network, Women's Network, Sportsnet, TSN etc... Keep up the good ass-kissing/network brown-nosing work Mike!
-
From Keith Richards: " To me, George was, always will be, above all, a real gentleman, in the full meaning of the word... Let's hope he's jamming with John ".
-
Clint Eastwood circa Dirty Harry and Fistful of Dollars; Humphrey Bogart; James Dean and a young Brando. Cargney was pretty cool too.
-
Andre, you know Hendrix has been in at least 4 feature length movies: Monterey Pop Festival; Woodstock; Isle of Wight Festival; and Rainbow Bridge. No acting needed. I think George Harrison was pretty cool too.
ok ready, set, go atter !

Why wasn't The Tea Party on this list?!! Where is Our Lady Peace?
As " popular " music of today goes, I don't hear the Dead in any of it. I was surprised to see them included on the list. I'm a lot miffed at the inclusion of Lynyrd Skynrd but not the Allman Brothers. If anything, Skynrd should be left off and replaced with the Allmans - they started it all and did it better than any southern rock band period. No Phish shouldn't surprise anyone. However, Neil Young should have made it - he influenced most of the big Seattle bands and his folk stuff had a great deal of impact on the Lilith Fair artists. Zappa doesn't belong on the list because his music WILL NEVER be popular, but he's in my Top 10 - which is a much more prestigious list than Spin's. Here's my 10 ( off the top of my head ): The Who, Allmans, Dead, Zappa, Hendrix; Miles Davis; Television; Neil Young; Stones, Beatles.
