  1. I’m soooo proud of my mayor.

I have one friend and at least two neighbours that voted for this clown and have regretted it from nearly his first week in office. He never should have been elected in the first place. Ford was hated by almost all city councillors when he was a long-serving councillor, and now, ironically, some of these self-serving weasels are now part of his hand-picked Executive Committee (Paul Ainsley quit the committe recently, but it took the high profile Scarborough subway spat to finally drive him away). Traditionally, “Robbie†votes against almost every city upgrade and proposal (e.g., women's shelters, free city nurses, AIDS memorial, Riverdale Farm, anything to do with local arts, government-funded PAID-IN-FULL light-rail transit that would cover large swaths of the outer city and so on...). He got voted in by making simple dumbed-down statements and quick sound bites that succeeded in wooing his largely suburban FORD NATION car-addicted fan base, even though he does next-to-nothing, has a total lack of vision, has distain for anyone who disagrees with him, dislikes downtowners (most are “lefties†and in a union) and far too often acts as a boorish mean-spirited lout that seemingly revels in destroying any sort of city unity (suburbs vs. downtown). I won't even get into his alleged homophobia, sexism and bigotry incidents.

Even with all of this, Ford does firmly stand by what he thinks is right and is loyal to a fault. As bad as Ford is, I almost hate the members in his Executive Committee more because they know who and what he is, but look the other way or say "yes" to whatever he says because when it comes down to it, they want power too.

  2. It was a fine night, even with Dylan. At least he was in a good mood and had a killer band featuring Colin Linden. Richard Thompson was a latent revelation and I was impressed by MMJ's gutsy decision to not play any of their surefire crowd pleasing guitar anthems, although they did tease "Run Thru".

Wilco were entertaining as always. The ode to Canada duets with

Feist were a highlight as was the all-star "Cinnamon Girl". Richard Thompson jamming a Fairport Convention classic with Tweedy and the boys kicked major ass. Overall, I didn't find Wilco too rockin, probably because they were teeing up closer Dylan. It's pretty clear the majority at the venue were there to see the legend. The lack of crossover appeal surprised me. I didn't recognize most of the Dylan tunes, including "Watchtower". His hardcore fans don't seem to care though, judging by the rousing ovations he got after every nearly incoherent rendition. He's essentially getting a free pass. If anyone has earned one, it's Bobby, although it makes for a challenging night for non diehards.

  3. Scarred now, sacred later. Just you wait and see.

"Pete Townshend told me to fuck off at a Who concert!!!!"

    Ha! Yes!

It's not as if this is the first time Pete's got into it with audiences. He has a fairly long and inglorious track record. I'm curious if dad bothered explaining Moon's bondage scene in The Kids Are Alright - or the Abbie Hoffman Woodstock incident?

Still, too bad about the short-term scarring.

  4. BB is not the healthiest guy; nearly blind and can't stand for long plus he has diabetes. I've seen him twice and he puts on a good show. His voice is powerful as ever and his chops are still pretty fierce. He developed his tone trying to emulate slide guitar, especially Earl Hooker. Bouche wouldn't like him either.

  5. In! Looking forward to seeing Trey with this band in Toronto. It's been a while since I've seen Trey or Phish, and I've never been to the Danforth. Stoked!

Planning on walking around? Greektown neighbourhood kicks in around a block east of the Music Hall, but the blocks around the venue are just as interesting. The epicentre is Danforth & Chester or even Danforth & Logan. FYI, the Bloor Street Viaduct bridge at Broadview & Danforth was a big part of Michael Ondatjee's In the Skin of a Lion.

  6. Really' date=' you can't go wrong where you go as long as it isn't the fucking scuzzy dive The Black Swan. [/quote']

    ^^^^^^

But it is where you should go after the show for some fun tunes...

The Auld Spot is a good pub with decent pub food but you are in greektown so I recommend exploring as well.

Better than normal pub fare. The second floor of the Swan is good for live music, but the main floor is awful. Factory Girl is British Invasion themed with a good beer and wine list and tasty Italian fare. Walk around though. My favourite neighbourhood in the city.
