  2. it's on the SPACE channel. My kid loves it (like i did back in the day). Learned a lot of cool things from the Professor. I gotta be sure to skip through the commercials for him since the hour, and station, it's on isn't really geared for the "kid" audience :)

Like many here, I grew up in the golden age of drug fueled children's programming ... Frightenstein, Scooby Doo, pretty much everything ever done by Sid and Marty Kroft (The Buggaloos? LIDSVILLE, for crying out loud?) Mr. Show's Altered States Of Druggachussetts sketch pretty much hit the nail on the head.

  5. Gah, this thing is going to fill up before I get home and can verify the title of the song I want ... can anyone tell me the title of the Nick Cave secret track on the Songs In The Key Of X compilation/soundtrack CD? (Not Red Right Hand, which is listed in the tracklisting).

  6. For the sake of argument (I'm sober and slightly more rational now) what if you were to replace the words "The Beatles" with the word "Elvis" in this thread?

Did Elvis even write a song??

Honestly does anyone know if he did? For some reason I don't think so.

He did end up with a few writing credits, but I think those were from publishing negotiations and I don't think he actually did any "writing" of the songs.

I don't really care for the "He didn't write anything" slam on Elvis anyway. The idea of a musician having to write all of his own material to have any credibility is a relatively new phenomenon (late 60s, at any rate) and before that it was pretty much given that songwriting and performance were separate. There were some artists in the 50s who wrote most of their own material ( Check Berry, Buddy Holly), but they were very much the exception to the rule. I don't know if, for instance, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holliday or Aretha Franklin ever wrote a note of their own music but are still considered great artists. Why should Elvis be considered any different? Is the art of the vocalist or the interpreter that disregarded?

    Rant over ...

  7. sorry Rob, the rules stay the same.

I know you mean well but if it stalls, it stalls. We need 12 entries from 12 separate people.

I just can't believe this topic is so difficult.

Ah well, at least the post did what was the main intent, it got discussion restarted on the topic.

  8. I know I am cheating by adding twice to this one, but it seems to have stalled out, so ...

  9. Let's not forget the classic intro to the Franken and Davis routine on Dead Ahead by Brent Mydland , it went something like :

"I really hate to do this, because I've never heard of these guys before ... and I don't think they're very funny. Anyway ... here's Frank and Dave."

There was also that odd little bit at the intermission of Ticket To New Years where Tom Davis interviews Jerry Garcia giving his favorite recipes.
