Last night we watched Wet Hot American Summer (no it's not a porno, booche) and laughed so hard we had to literally pause the movie a few times to collect ourselves. The hour-in-town partying scene near the beginning was one of those moments. This is easily the funniest movie I have seen in YEARS. It has Janine Garofolo and David Hyde Pierce (from Frasier).

It's based in 1981 at a summer camp - they NAIL the syle/clothing PERFECTLY. Absolutely hilarious. Rent it ASAP!!

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but if you haven't Memento is a great flick - a whodunit being solved by a guy with no short-term memory. If you liked it, check out an earlier film by the same director (whose name I can't remember) called Following, about a frustratred writer who follows people around for inspiration for his stories.

Brian.

anything from the coen bros (especially "the big lebowski", "blood simple", "miller's crossing", "the man who wasn't there")

anything from wes anderson (especially "bottle rocket')

btw: the director of memento = Chris Nolan and both of those movies are brilliant IMHO. insomnia wasn't quite up to their levels, but I think Pacino managed to put in a good showing performance wise.

See any movie with the greatest B actor ever: Bruce Campbell ( except Crimewave and Serving Sarah ). I saw Campbell's new film, Bubba Ho-Tep, at The Toronto International Film Festival this summer. It was awesome. Campbell is a 70 year old Elvis living in an old folks home, who battles a soul-sucking mummy. Ossie Davis is a black JFK... no kidding. He's fucking funny and they both play their roles straight. It's directed by Don Coscarelli ( Phantasm ). This film got raves by critics and it played to packed houses. When it gets released, go and see it... fast. It's hilarious and my favourite film this year... until The Two Towers comes out. By-the-by, Bruce's new bestselling book: If Chins Could Talk: Confessions Of A B-Actor, has just come out in trade-paperback. Highly recommended. Lots of Evil Dead and Sam Raimi insights.

I also rented Brotherhood Of The Wolf last night on dvd. Get this movie if you like historic, horror, romantic martial arts movies. It's a French film from last year and it's a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

I loved the brotherhood of the wolf too Jaimoe!!!

That movie has it all: sex, drugs, killer fight sequences, mystery, history, cool heroes, and crazy villans....well worth the watch. Stapes saw it overseas a year or 2 ago, and made me watch it...thankfully so.

It's also cool because it's not a hollywood flick.
