King Toot
I was listening to "GD Radio", a free service from Dead.net. You need Real Player (versions are available free on Kazaa / WinMX, etc.) to listen. I came across "US Blues" which is Track # 222. It has completely different lyrics ! The date is 3-26-78 I wrote down most of them (what I could make out)... Wave the flag Pop the bag Skin the goat Sail the boat Kill the cat Drown the rat Ball the jack Chew the fat Read the signs Connect the lines Pay your fines Save your dimes Lose your keys Scratch your fleas Wave that flag, etc...(chorus) Eat at Dan's Read the phrase Hide at Kate's ? Walk on waves Stretch the truth Pull a tooth Feed the poor Starve the ?? Cash the ?? Catch a kiss Play your licks Pick up sticks Trim your wig Take your pick Try your tricks Impress the chicks (chorus) Watch the fans Dig the dance Live in shame Die in vain Catch the blues Burn the stew Shine your shoes Sing the blues (chorus) Give it a listen. I thought it was pretty cool. Surprising, too. I've heard some alt. lyrics on Fire on the Mtn., but just a few lines, cause Jerry never seemed to remember the words. ::

Stapes
Wave that Flag An earlier version of the piece, titled "Wave That Flag," first appeared on February 9, 1973, and was dropped after June of that year. It has different lyrics, which are published in Hunter's A Box of Rain. Here's a cool link "We're all confused, what's to lose..."
bouche
yeah, this tune screwed with me too. Incidentally, I first heard at a Dark Star Orchestra show and was COMPLETELY CONFUSED. Andre straightened me out though.
