Basher
I just picked up John Prine's new CD, Fair & Square. He played a lot of these songs when he last visited Toronto, and it brings back great memories. This is a must have! FYI, this CD is $12.99 at Future Shop and if you order online delivery is free!My favourite lyrics come from "Some Humans Ain't Human":Some humans ain't humanSome people ain't kindYou open up their heartsAnd here's what you'll findA few frozen pizzasSome ice cubes with hairA broken PopsicleYou don't want to go thereSome humans ain't humanThough they walk like we doThey live and they breatheJust to turn the old screwThey screw you when you're sleepingThey try to screw you blindSome humans ain't humanSome people ain't kindYou might go to churchAnd sit down in a pewThose humans who ain't humanCould be sittin' right next to youThey talk about your familyThey talk about your clothesWhen they don't know their own assFrom their own elbowsJealousy and stupidityDon't equal harmonyJealousy and stupidityDon't equal harmonySpoken:Have you ever noticedWhen you're feeling really goodThere's always a pigeonThat'll come shit on your hoodOr you're feeling your freedomAnd the world's off your backSome cowboy from TexasStarts his own war in IraqSome humans ain't humanSome people ain't kindThey lie through their teethWith their head up their behindYou open up their heartsAnd here's what you'll findSome humans ain't humanSome people ain't kind
FairySari
I have this cd as well, and i love it. Safety Joe is hilarious, and my coworkers always tease me for singing along to She's My Everything when we listen to it at work. Too bad I spent 16.99 on it at Indigo... StoneMtn
I am really looking forward to his show in Vancouver. I saw him a couple of years ago, and he ranks with some of my all-time favourite performers live. (Although I normally don't really care, in this case I'm pretty excited about scoring 9th-row tickets. Woo hoo!)His stage-banter reminds me of a somewhat-surly Arlo Guthrie. Calamity Jane
wow, thanks Basher - gonna order it immediately. we had quite a few old Prine tunes dusted off and brought out during the all-night campfire jams after the CJ boat cruise last Sat. never seen him live, but it is amazing the connection a person makes to discovering music, eh? We FIRST heard Prine in Japan, of all places, (while teaching there) and hooking up with some Amercian Deadheads!!
