From the Team here in Ottawa this morning:

Marian Hossa wants a 3 year deal worth 21 million dollars while the Sens are offering 3 years and 11 million. Hossa's expectations are unrealistic in my view and that is one WIDE gap.

A report in Tuesday's edition of The Montreal Gazette said there was a rumor floating that the Florida Panthers were entertaining the idea of trading star goalkeeper Roberto Luongo. But nothing could be further from the truth, a team official said.

With most of their free agent shopping done, the Bruins have pushed hard over the past couple of days to get franchise centerpiece Joe Thornton signed to a long-term deal... The B's could be interested in Brendan Witt.

Free agent Alexander Mogilny could be following former Toronto teammates Joe Nieuwendyk and Gary Roberts to Florida.

On-going talks between Eric Lindros and the Maple Leafs have hit a significant hurdle. It ends up that signing the one-time NHL MVP would come with a much larger immediate hit against Toronto's salary cap than had been speculated. Oh, in case you were wondering. The Leafs still suck.

Sportsnet is still suggesting that a trade Theodore for Luongo is in the works, the hurdle being that Florida wants the Habs to sweeten the pot by tossing Ryder into the deal.

Spurned by Sean Burke on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins responded by acquiring goaltender Jocelyn Thibault from the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2006 Entry Draft.

Burke was considering an offer from the Penguins, but signed instead with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Leafs seemed not to do their homework regarding the injury clause regarding the signing of Lindros. It seems Eric played too many games in the last season to qualify for the injury contract clause. Nice work Leafs. [color:red]Who does your paper-work, Rob Babcock?

HAHAHA!!!

The Boston Bruins are hoping that their star player will say yes the second time around.

Citing an industry source, The Boston Herald reported Wednesday that the Bruins have offered Joe Thornton a five-year deal worth $32.5 million.

GM Mike O'Connell and Thornton's agent both refused to confirm on the report.

"We've talked and that's just where we're at," O'Connell told The Herald. "I'm not going to discuss what we've done or what we haven't done, but we've been talking and hopefully we can reach a conclusion." Said agent J.P. Barry: "We're just talking and I'll leave it at that. We still have a lot of issues to overcome and that's why we have been talking every day."

Last week, the Bruins are believed to have offered Thornton a five-year deal around $25 million.

Thornton has until Monday to take the offer, the deadline for when qualifying offers expire. If he doesnt' take what is on the table now, Thornton will sign his qualifying offer of $5.13 million and will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2005-06 season. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, Boston would not be able to negotiate with Thornton again until January 2006.

Veteran defenseman Brendan Witt went public yesterday, telling the Washington Post he wants to be traded from the Capitals. There appears to be much interest in the 30-year-old blueliner, who has one-year left on his contract, TFP has learned.

Witt is supposedly drawing interest from the likes of the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bruins GM Mike O'Connell has spoken to Caps GM George McPhee, but told the Boston Herald that he's spoken to him "about a number of issues."

The 6-foot-1, 218-pound defenseman is set to earn $1.672 million this upcoming season.

COME ON HABS!!!!!!!!!!!!
