Esau
I think about it alot. They say ev'rything can be replaced, Yet ev'ry distance is not near. So I remember ev'ry face Of ev'ry man who put me here. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. They say ev'ry man needs protection, They say ev'ry man must fall. Yet I swear I see my reflection Some place so high above this wall. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. Standing next to me in this lonely crowd, Is a man who swears he's not to blame. All day long I hear him shout so loud, Crying out that he was framed. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released.

TheGoodRev
That is a beautiful tune. If you've ever read Levon Helm's autobiography This Wheel's On Fire, the prologue details Richard Manuel's funeral in Stratford. Garth Hudson played I Shall Be Released on the church organ and all in attendance sang along.A short time after reading that I saw Festival Express for the first time, and the film includes an extremely impassioned performance of the song, featuring Richard singing in his trademark falsetto. Just incredible. Thanks for putting that song in my head this morning Esau, I feel today might be a Band day. Hope you're well dude.
Esau
Oh man... appears I was feeling better then I thought I was last night... damn run-on weekends.I think I meant 'The Last Waltz' more then the song, but in truth, that is probally my favourite part of the film and favourite version of it.I just find myself at times (often really) thinking what it had to have been like, to be in the crowd while all that went down, I mean just look at the pic above, it never ceases to floor me, the magnitude of musicial energy & talent that graced the stage that evening. A true summit of amazing & unique musicians. If I could go back for one concert only.....
