Olympics Refing of Hockey

Man...i'm loving this style of reffing... maybe its cause i'm usedd to watching the pathetic reffing in the NHL, but its the same officials...

just they aren't under teh strict NHL regime.

I reffed hockey over 12 years, which is why i often pay attention to the refs as much as the players....

and let me tell you, what a breath of fresh air....teams are PLAYING hockey...

SO many times i've seen an action that would call for a penalty in the new NHL. i immediatly look at the ref, only to see him shaking his head....

awesome.

these are the same NHL refs that do the NHL games, so there's no point in claiming that these ref's are better....

Its just that the ref's are now allowed to call the game the way they want to.....

SO MUCH BETTER.

Agree with you 100%. 5 on 5 for more than 35 seconds at a time - what a concept! On the other hand, I watched some of the States-Russia game and they had a ton of "New NHL" style calls. What can you do?

pretty sure it's not all the same officials .... lots of officials from the european leagues.

Yes, It's a mixture of officials from all over.

each Team Canada (guys) game has had a NHL head ref so far.

(Paul Devorski, Dennis LaRue, Dan Marouelli, and Don Van Massenhoven)

All regular NHL refs. (well, Van Massenhoven hasn't reffed as much lately, but was one of the NHL's top ref's for many years)

There are five non nhl refs, and six non nhl linesman...
