THE QUARTERTONES

quartertones.jpg

A collaboration of four classically trained jazz musicians, along with two local veteran hip-hop producers, The Quartertones are at the forefront of Canada's acid jazz/funk resurgence. Presently the band is working on the follow up to their highly praised first LP, "Hidden In Plain Sight." Locked in the Studio for the last 6 months the Quartertones are ready to break out again as Toronto's Top Jazzy Beat Junkies.

BIG LEAGUE CHU

CHU.jpg

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada?s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully.

Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. It’s this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly. His current projects include Make It Funky and his new weekly residency at Kabin.

ROBB G VS JELO

jelo.jpg

3 years ago after witnessing Robb G and Jelo turn Cherry beach into a sand storm they will finally be playing back to back at one of our events. Their raw energy together on one stage(or 2 picnic tables in that case) was more than enough to get us hooked. This has happened before on a few occasions but never something to be missed. This is RARE!

Check them out at www.djjelo.com & www.robbg.com

The Beat Freakers

As DJ's, "The Beat Freakers" have a resume that highlights their ability to construct diverse live performances. By providing support to artists such as Rabbit in the Moon, The Drummatic Twins, The Freestylers, Donald Glaude, Mixmaster Mike, Josh "The Funky 1," Jesse Saunders, Ed Rush and Optical, and DJ Craze, "The Beat Freakers" have solidified their rank within the top tier of the International electronic music community. Their high-energy style establishes an immediate rapport with any audience, and their desire to recreate a studio session in real time sets them apart from the current crop of lackluster performers. Using samples, locked grooves, and acapellas in conjunction with turntable trickery and furious scratch sessions, "The Beat Freakers" craft live sets that are eclipsed only by their original productions.

The All Good Funk Alliacen formed in 1997 and consists of Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek. They've been creating music and DJ'ing since 1995 and have a slew of releases and remixes. Their style blends funk, breaks, and Latin grooves to produce a style unto their own. Originally starting out producing house tracks, the All Good Funk Alliance have moved on to the style of party breaks and renamed their house music production persona to B-Team. Initially signed to Defective out of Baltimore, and later having their third release blow up on the classic label Maxi out of New York the boys were soon on there way. They have been featured on several mix comps, television shows, commercials and tons of labels. Their remix roster includes Fort Knox 5, Dublex Inc., Malente, Ed Royal and Swamburger just to name a few. The AGFA also run the successful label Funk Weapons which has featured remixes from Fort Knox 5, Canton, Malente, Clayton and Fulcrum and Ed Royal

I'd have to look into that... I am about an hour and half trip from my area in Mississauga to Toronto just with the Go Bus to union station. I don't know that local buses would get me close enough... but thanks for the info.
