We're pulling out all the stops for our upcoming party welcoming back Calgary's S malltown Djs , a group who have been touring North America with our favorite DJs Fort Knox Five, Mat The Alien, Kid Gusto, All Good Funk Alliance, Krafty Kuts and more. Running Canada's label Bigfoot Records , Smalltown Djs (Pete and Mike) are at the heart of Canada's mid tempo funk breaks scene and will be in Toronto on July 28th. Joining us for live sets are Halifax Funk Collective High Plains Drifter , and Toronto's #1 live breaks & drum n bass project The Chameleon Project .

Add into the mix our resident funkateer " Big League Chu ", Moses Mayes DJ RPG from Winnepeg, Dave Dub , Farbsie , Red Turtle , Mickey D , Taro and Zirca and you've got a top mix of Canadian Funk talent!

Mike Grimes and Pete Emes are those dudes known as Smalltown DJs. Based in Calgary, AB - they currently (since 1999) run a weekly known as Hai Karate. Hai Karate and the Smalltown DJs were born out of the ashes of old style block parties, punk rock shows at community halls and the early nineties rave scene. Hanging with these dudes on any given night you will hear funk, pop, dancehall, rock, hip hop, house, breaks, grime and bmore. No pretension allowed, only party and dance. So please grab yourself a drink, make your way to the dancefloor, and let's go! The Hai Karate Allstar remix Eps are being released in 2006 to celebrate the nights sixth anniversary.Over the past six years the Smalltown Djs have hosted and played alongside such artsits as Afrika Bambaataa, Lateef, Lyrics Born, Dj Assault, Jeru the Damaja, Tommie Sunshine, Chromeo, Mike Relm, Cosmo Baker and Dj Ayres ATrak, Low Budget, Diplo, James Lavelle, Kool Keith, Z-trip and Dj Radar, Fort Knox Five, and Maseo from De la Soul among many

Jazz, jungle, disco, funk, dub, techno It's all about a groove. What keeps it engaging is improvisation; it keeps changing, it's at the heart of all great music and it's in the DNA of the members of the Chameleon Project. The band has tuned into the growing audience that appreciates a wide range of improvised styles from classic straight ahead jazz to the propulsive rhythms of electronic music. The band is not afraid to take chances night after night and brings loyal followers wherever they play.

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada?s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully.

Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his big gest musical influences. It's this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly. His current projects include Make It Funky and the return of Kickit.

I had a wild practice with the High Plains Drifter band and we're sounding great... pulling out some afrofunk, 70's funk, rock fusion and some motown...

Chameleon Project has also reunited with their former bass player Jamie Kidd, who recently played at Harbourfront... it should be a real fun time for those interested in all things funky.
