Paying homage to the music of late-sixties, early-seventies era Miles Davis, THE BITCHES BREW TRIBUTE BAND performs selections from such seminal recordings as In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and A Tribute to Jack Johnson. Long considered significant milestones in the development of jazz-rock fusion, these recordings mix a variety of styles from r&b and free jazz to atmospheric and world music textures. The impact of these Miles Davis sessions is apparent in the funk, hip-hop, psychedelic, jam-band and contemporary jazz music released since the early-seventies.

In existence for several years performing to appreciative audiences - including a well-received performance the 2002 Ottawa International Jazz Festival - THE BITCHES BREW TRIBUTE BAND is respectful of the original recordings while still showcasing the diverse improvisational voices of the experienced musicians in the ensemble. In the Fall of 2003, two members of the group - guitarist Wayne Eagles and bassist Mike Milligan - will be recording a CD with acclaimed drummer Billy Kilson, best known for his work with the Dave Holland Quintet.

Rob Frayne – saxophone & keyboards

Rob Frayne plays with Four Little Cars, Chelsea Bridge, the Angstones, a Roland Kirk tribute band, and has been featured on more than twenty Canadian recordings. Clyde Forsberg – trumpet & keyboards

Clyde Forsberg holds a Ph.D. in American social and cultural history, but he also holds a trumpet in the wee hours of the morning, playing with such Canadian jazz greats as long-time friend, Rob Frayne, playing in the Chelsea Bridge Tentet along side Kevin Turcotte. In Kingston, a sizzling Latin-jazz group, Pico Degallo (lips of the chicken) is his mainstay these days where his electric trumpet spices things up. For the last several years, he's become involved in experimental musical theatre, starting with the “Ice Storm” and then a stormy play about his debt to Louis Armstrong, which sold out at the Arts Centre last year. A third play, “The Penis Diaries”, recently played at the NAC’s Fourth Stage.

Wayne Eagles – guitar

A musician for over 25 years and a professional guitar instructor for over 15 years, Wayne has music-related BA, BA Hons, and MA degrees.
