The Rolling Stone coverage (what was the expression they used 'most important band of the 90's' - am I mistaken?) sort of weighs in my mind against that argument. I think Trey's clout and chops as a player could be fairly couched in MarcO's terms but there is a sound countervailing argument. I mean fuck a band like Love who had arguably (easily) one good album have a significant and influential place in music history. Phish has to be far more influential than Love.
