Fort Knox Five (Fort Knox Recordings) www.fortknoxrecordings.com The Fort Knox Five has had a huge impact on the international funk and breaks scene in just a few short years. With the release of five critically acclaimed singles on their own independent label, Fort Knox Recordings, the FK5 have been thrust into the spotlight and caught the attention of music lovers around the world. FK5 flawlessly fuse live instrumentation with modern electronics to create their signature funk-driven sound. Their highly sought-after production style has been called upon to remix incredible artists, including: the legendary Tito Puente, Louis Armstrong, Tower of Power, A Skillz and Krafty Kuts, Dynamo Productions, and Mo'Horizons to name a few. They have also been called upon by the godfather himself, Afrika Bambaataa, to produce four tracks on his recent album "Dark Matter" on Tommy Boy Records. Recently, they have been back in the studio with Afrika Bambaataa and King Kamonzi releasing a smoking new single called Radio Free DC. FK5's unique DJ style ranges from eclectic downbeat & hip hop, to upbeat funk and breaks. Their keen sense of party rocking has gained them countless fans around the globe. They have rocked dancefloors in Russia, Germany, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Holland, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Canada to name a few. As well as mega clubs such as Fabric Live in London, Supercharged in Brighton, La Paloma in Barcelona, and many more.... In 2005 Fort Knox Five was honoured into the prestigious Urb Magazine Next 100, and featured on the Hotel Costes Sept Compilation, FK5 also teamed up with the English Funkateers, Skeewiff, over at Jalapeno Records. Together they compiled a breakbeat funk compilation called, The Raid. It features exclusive tracks and remixes by Skeewiff, the Fort Knox Five, and Kraak en Smaak. These tunes all come from the back catalogs of Fort Knox and Jalapeno. A major turning point also in that year was when they were selected to be Gwen Stefanis tour and show DJ on the Harajuku Lovers 2005 tour. Being a part of this, they had the opportunity to open sellout shows with Gwen Stefani, and the Black Eyed Peas. They were able to play massive arenas, such as the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Gardens, and everywhere else in between. Returning to Toronto almost a year after his legedary jam with God Made Me Funky in the summer of 2006, Fort Knox Five is also touring to support FORT KNOX REMINTED. Reminted is the second CD release from Fort Knox Recordings, featuring a selection of Fort Knox Five's remixes, compiled & mixed in their signature, party-rocking DJ style. Sid Barcelona, Jon Horvath, Rob Myers and Steve Raskin are the mastermind production team behind the Fort Knox Five. They have coined the term 'Reminted' to represent their unique remixing style. The Fort Knox Five are known for creating songs that go beyond the average remix by extensively incorporating their own live instrumentation and highly sought after production skills. With this release, FK5 dig into their vast remix vault to select 12 tracks to create a continuously-mixed DJ set that takes you on a journey through some of their favorite performances. Celebrated masters Tito Puente and Joe Bataan, overlap vibes with current dancefloor artists A. Skillz & Krafty Kuts, Dynamo Productions, Skeewiff and Ursula 1000, to name a few. This collection puts you at the center of the floor at a raging Fort Knox Five party. for more information please visit: www.fortknoxrecordings.com High Plains Drifter (360 Degrees Artists) www.highplainsdrifter.ca High Plains Drifter is a eclectic collective who's funk and world beat live performances are captivating audiences across Canada. Leaning towards original jazz-funk, fusion and world music, High Plains Drifter is a groove force who's goal is to keeps dancehalls packed and bodies in constant motion. High Plains Drifter draws inspiration from artists as diverse as James Brown, Breakestra Orchestra and Wes Montgomery. The group, known for their unpredictable stage show, has enjoyed collaborations with musicians from all over Canada. Formed in 2003 at Nova Scotia's premier Jazz School, High Plains Drifter has performed at the Evolve Festival, Halifax Jazz Festival, Come Together Festival and clubs across Central and Eastern Canada. In 2005, the band under the tutleage of Jay Cleary relocated to Toronto where they have become a staple on the summer festival and Toronto funk-rock scene. Known for unpredictable and spontaneous collaborations, High Plains Drifter 's sound knows no boundaries of sonic exploration and discovery. KING SUNSHINE HORN SECTION (Soul Motion Recordings) www.kingsunshine.com Toronto's deep funk collective King Sunshine shared the stage with Fort Knox Five at an intense Make it Funky in 2005 and Make it Funky thought it would be fitting that King Sunshine's Horn section should come play live as Fort Knox Five's recent productions feature some great horns arrangements. In the spirit of Make Funky's penchant to offering once in a lifetime ~ off the chain musical collaborations ( Fort Knox Five and Killa Kella, Z-Trip and KC Roberts & The Raw Blue, DJ Serious & The Quartertones, CZECH vs CHU and more), King Sunshine's lead Brassman, Charlie Findlay will lead the horn assault with High Plains Drifter. BIG LEAGUE CHU (Make it Funky) www.bigleaguechu.com Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada's breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully. Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. It's this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly. As Make It Funky's main resident, Colin's dynamic sets and down to earth nature has made him one of Toronto's most sought after performers. Zirca (Make it Funky, Mixed Bag) www.djzirca.com Zirca has been spinning Drum & Bass since 2002. Although a fan of all genres of DnB, he prefers the smoother, funked out rollers and all that is liquid funk. He plays gigs regularly in Toronto and has touched down on local radio shows such as 1groove.com, partyradio.ca & club246.com and internationally on proxima.fm. He is a resident for Make It Funky and the founder of Mixed Bag: Downtempo & Breakbeat Sessions & the forthcoming liquid funk/reggae/dub monthly, SoulFULL. With two monthly's under his belt Zirca is one to watch. Lady Linzee www.myspace.com/ladylinzee Linzee (or Lady Linzee as we now know her) first became aware of her love for music back in the mid-nineties, in her soon to be hometown of Toronto, Canada. Always one of the first clubgoers on the dancefloor and one of the last one's to leave, she was inspired by some of the Detroit techno, house and trance greats such as Kenny Glasgow, Richie Hawtin, John Debo and DJ Dan. Today when Linzee is not on the dancefloor, she can be found bopping behind the decks of some of the smaller, more intimate parties around Toronto where she uses the music as a catalyst to create a funky explosion of energy. She has built a name for herself spinning tunes on the chunky and funky edge of house music, gracing the decks in such clubs as the Ministry of Sound (London, UK), Heaven (London UK), Buzz (Washington, DC), Trade (Turnmills, London, UK), Faces (Ayia Napa, Cyprus), Volkesgarten (Vienna, Austria). Since her return to Toronto she held a monthly residency at Element Bar (Toronto, Canada), played to a crowd of thousands at the Docks for Reconnected in April 2005 opening up for the world renowned Crystal Method and held a year-long residency alongside a wide range of international superstars at Toronto's System Soundbar. Two years running she has funked up the stage at Toronto's Pride. Seeing Linzee spin, you can't help but catch on to her infectious grooves as she bops along behind the decks. Her boundless enthusiasm, tremendous skill and overall presence behind the decks definitely makes her a DJ not to be missed. Make it Funky is one of Toronto's largest Breaks & Live Funk Production Companies. Since 2005, Make it Funky has presented top international Breaks, Rare Groove, Turntablism, Classic old school hip-hop and live touring artists to venues across Canada. Make it Funky is a concert experience whose mission is to explore the funkier side of music fusing the live show with the dj experience in a single night that will have you shakin your shoes on the dancefloor. You'll get an exceptional night of music, dancing and good fun ~ with a focus on bringing the cutting edge of funky electronic based music and live music to the masses all in one show. With a strong foundation of almost 3 years of importing the world's finest breakbeat talent to Canada and as well developping top new Canadian talent, Make it Funky is where it's at for what is new on the international DJ and live funk scene. What has help set Make it Funky apart is the combination of live band sets with djs, a move that has helped to create a fresh new cross over scene with a open-minded attitude.
