headymamamyrna
Check your smoke detectors!i was chatting tonight and my computer is downstairs.I had water boiling on the stove andI opened all my windows and doors and turned the fans on but could not get rid of the smell. my niece came on chat for the first time.i was so enjoying chatting with her.All of a sudden a smoke detector went off but it was the one at the bottom of the stairs not the one upstairs.by the time I went upstairs my kitchen was filled with smoke and the pot on the stove was burnt to hell.Seems like the smoke detector upstairs didnt work.I do have a new one to install now.So please check your smoke detectors i thought i did! bouche
the problem with smoke detectors is that you sometimes forget that you disconnected one because you were making breakfast and burning up some bacon and toast so you end up pulling out the battery and forget to put it back it.maybe that's not the smoke detectors fault but I think every house should be wired to the electric grid with them. AD
i am not sure where to get them, but i saw a piece on the news yesterday talking about these new ones. so they do exist. if you can't find them in stores you could probably call the fire department and they'd be able to direct you. Tungsten Gruvsten
Even better the new electrical code requires that all smoke detectors are powered by AC not batteries (buy the ones with battery backup anyways) and wired together so when one goes off on one floor, they all go off....very smart. headymamamyrna
The new one I bought has a hush button.I bought it at Rona but I am sure you could buy one wherever they sell smoke alarms.
