bike recommendation?

the thread about used bikes got me thinking...i just sold my old bike as i'm moving. i plan on biking more after leaving this hilly/lactate burning/ out of breath after one hill, city.

any recommendations on a 'comfort' bike ie. good for commuting about 30-45 minute ride, back straight, good balance ie. wide® tires, available in red, etc. ?

my bike is Jamis.. it's got a nice comfy seat.. and it's really pretty. It's also very light so you can take it on trails and such... Mine is the Explorer.. it's Mint Green LOVE it.. highly reccomend it.

I just got one of these guys for my 10-15 minute bike to work. I moved up to the hybrid from a mountain bike and she rides like a dream. twice the speed on half the effort, light as a feather, so pumped to do some long distance biking with it this summer.

Hybrids are the way to go: half mountain bike and half ten-speed - the tires can handle the bumps and they go faster than a mountain bike.

It's all in the narrow tires.

If you can get narrow but grippy tires, a road bike, cycle cross, or hybrid would be my bet. Big cruisers or mountain bikes are not the best idea...from what I've gathered along my travels.

Of course, you might want to just fix up a bike to avoid theft...having a stolen bike is a real pain in your ass.
