bouche
My nut fell off after I took the strings off for a renewal. I'm wondering what type of glue I should use for a temporary repair. I have both rubber cement and a spray adhesive. Will that do or should I forget it? I have new strings to put on so I would hate to do it TOTALLY wrong. They are Elixir's afterall. Edited November 8, 2008 by Guest
bradm
Fromhttp://www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/nuts.htmIdeally, nuts are held in place by a small dab of glue, preferably white glue, Titebond or Hide glue. In the world of instrument repair we must keep in mind that instruments are built to allow for disassembly, so, if yours manages to pop loose a small dab of Elmers or wood glue will be sufficient. The use of superglue, epoxy and other inappropriate adhesives have given luthiers nightmares for years and should be avoided.Aloha,Brad
bouche
thx for searching for me bradm I think there may be some wood glue kicking around too. I'm glad to find out that they're not meant to be glued for good.
bradm
I'd make sure to clean/scrape both surfaces (so there wasn't any dried glue left on them) before I did any gluing.Aloha,Brad

bouche
I had 2 sets of Elixirs that were missing the .24 string. I went to Lauzon's music and they luckily had a box of 24's. They came to around $5 a piece! Expensive bitches, but worth every penny.
Tricky
I've switched to EXP's...great quality but not as expensive as Elixers. Also I use animal hide glue for everything, it's water soluble so makes for easy future repairs. Edited November 9, 2008 by Guest
SaggyBalls
'they are elixers after all'??dude they're guitar strings I guess if you're buying elixers then guitar strings are a significant expense...cause you only change em twice a year...
