Why can’t all advertisers be more like porn channels? That’s what came to mind when we spotted a fabulous series of commercials for Amour, the three sex channels (Red Hot TV, Hustler TV, Playboy TV) offered by Manitoba’s MTS TV. We can’t recall the last time advertising was as truthful as these half-dozen spots created by Cossette West, which feature bimbos apparently doing their darnedest to act well – and failing spectacularly, and hilariously.†The campaign’s winning tagline? “You won’t watch for the acting.†So, okay, we actually felt our brain cells dying as we took in the 15-second spots, which progress from a big-breasted gal awkwardly saying, “It’s getting hot in here,†to another tin-eared hottie trying breathlessly – and ineffectively – to put some emotion into the line, “Room for one more in that hot tub?†Still, by the end we surrendered to the campaign’s sly genius, for the way it perfectly captures the comical earnestness of the genre. From, you know, what we’ve heard.
