Big Wooly Mammoth
Fire on the Mountain (live) this is also kind of cool:Tonight in Athens, 2-9-11, WSP brought back "Fire On The Mountain" with JB doing the extra verses from Robert Hunter's original lyrics, the Fire Rap section.JB solo & early WP played it like that in 1985.Widespread Panic, first-time-played: 2-6-86 Athens the first official show with Todd that is celebrated now in 25th anniversary year.Widespread Panic, last-time-played: 10-2-88 Macon.... until bringing it off the shelf more than 22 years later --- that's a gap of 2,326 shows.http://www.everydaycompanion.com/played/FIRE.aspGrateful Dead never played it with the rap. Side projects did. Mickey Hart recorded 2 versions of "Fire On The Mountain" in the early 1970s with Jerry Garcia, Barry Melton, David Freiberg and others. Both have Mickey's 'rap' lyrics. One version is from the Area Code 415 sessions, and one from the sessions for Mickey Hart's unreleased album titled Fire On The Mountain. After 1995 when Jerry passed away, Mickey Hart brought back the Fire rap with The Other Ones at Furthur Fest, and in 2006 with The Rhythm Devils.Original lyrics are here:http://www.whitegum.com/introjs.htm?...e/FIREMRAP.HTMThe Fire Rap part (which JB did most of tonight) goes like this:Wound in barbed wire, hell I ain't soreOnly hurts when I laugh, or roll on the floorIt only hurts a little, at least that's what I'm toldWhen you drown in hot oil it can even feel coldCut up in sections, squirming aliveLost to the world on that fifty-cent jiveFireman, fireman, call off your dogThis isn't a blaze, it's just a hog in the logThere's a fire on the mountain, running aroundWhat doesn't go up can never come downGonna drink a hot water before I dieIt cools me down, I ain't telling no lieOut of the frying pan and into the fireOver the rat trap and under the wireMy baby's in scarlet, her shackles in grayIf loves to love she's got it slated awayPut it down heavy, pick it up leanGot to lay it down dirty and play it back clean Edited February 11, 2011 by Guest

Listened to the Fire on the Mountain. There are some songs JB's voice is perfect for. IMO, that is not one of them.
