new orleans jazzfest vs. wanee music fest

i need to choose 1 weekend. either weekend of the new orleans jazz fest, or the wanee music fest at live oak, FL.

i checked out the wanee line-up and thought SHIT YA!.... but then i checked out the list for new orleans and thought HOLY F*CK!

I think new orleans wins, though i've been told it's a troubled place to go as a single woman out-of-her-element...

any thoughts? experiences? much appreciated.

i dont know anything about Wanee, but have been to NOJazz a few times and highly recommend it. pricey place at that time, tho.

keep in mind that the those bands at the Jazzfest are playing over two weekends, seven days in total. and that there are a few main stages and many smaller stages with crowds in the 70K to 100K range, making it impossible to get around to see every band you want.

but the bonus is that there are many other bands in town at clubs and theater in addition to those at the festival. ive seen trey, sci, mars volta, greyboy, denson and a lot of others offsite there. check here for a pretty full list of everything going on.

as much as i really want to go to new orleans, maybe i should wait for another opportunity, where i could have my man as security.

i'll talk to the organiser today and see what's up, but maybe i'll opt for wanee, i'd feel safer being alone at a festival.

bones - nice ride! you getting your license or what?!?!?! there was a brand new ('10) sportster at the dealership here, trying to get rid of it - less than $8000 after taxes, registration, everything. BRAND NEW! fuck. it was that weird orange colour in your pic.

Damn. I don't think you could go wrong with either of those line-ups. I'd sure love to see the Neville Brothers again and/or Dumpstaphunk. Been quite some time. I didn't even know John Popper had another band.

While I would highly suggest New Orleans over any festival I've ever been to, I would not suggest it if you're going to be by yourself. It's definitley a fun place to be, but always travel in groups for safety.

I want to go back to the NOLA jazz fest!

looks like my man is doing wanee, and i'll head to new orleans. turns out my favourite person in america (besides my husband) will be at jazzfest too, so i won't be alone.

we did this a couple of years ago (creole queen actually). fantastic. saw greyboy allstars, who are back again this year too, along with galactic, north mississippi allstars and soulive ( all different dates) .

nothing like seeing denson on or near the water. hehe.
