Esau. Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 http://www.cbsnews.com/news/stephen-colbert-to-replace-david-letterman-on-late-show/CBS didn't waste too much time finding a new host for the "Late Show." Exactly a week after David Letterman announced his plans to retire, his replacement has been named.Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of "The Colbert Report," will succeed Letterman."Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television," CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves said in a statement Thursday. "David Letterman's legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today's announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night."
AD Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Wonder if Colbert will continue in character or be himself ... (Spoiler alert)
Hal Johnson Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Wonder if Colbert will continue in character or be himself ... (Spoiler alert)That's a really interesting question. I'd assume he'd have to drop the character for the type of show it would be.
Hartamophone Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Per CBC and the New York Times he won't be in character, which shouldn't come as a surprise. It will be interesting to see what kind of chops he has without that front.

"No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values, conservatism. Now it's just wide out in the open. What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny, and a redefinition of what is comedy. They're blowing up the 11:30 format... they hired a partisan, so-called comedian, to run a comedy show."
