whiteymuseum
So I've never done this before, but I thought for fun I'd put it out there to you people.I have booked seminal psych-blues-metal band BLUE CHEER for a show in April in Hamilton.I have the freedom to put two opening bands on the bill from the local region.Knowing what this fantastic band, Blue Cheer are all about, what would you say are solid selections to open the show?I have some ideas myself, but I thought for fun, it would be cool to hear from you all.BestsBrodie

bradm
There was a jambase article on them a little while ago. It's still a trio, with the original bass player and drummer, but not the original guitar player. The article lists4/06/07 Philadelphia, PA Northstar Bar4/07/07 New York, NY Rebel w/ Stephen Brodsky's Octave Museum4/08/07 Boston, MA Great Scott w/ Doomriders and Stephen Brodsky's Octave Museum4/9/07 Montreal, QC La Sala Rossa4/10/07 Toronto, ON Sneaky Dees4/12/07 Cleveland, OH Beachland Ballroom4/13/07 Lansing, MI Mac's Bar4/14/07 Chicago, IL Schuba's w/ Del Rey4/17/07 Washington, DC Black Catas tour dates, with An Albatross as the opening act.Aloha,Brad

Booche
not the original guitar playerDidnt he have some sort of mental illness and end up hospitalized? I might have a different group in mind. None the less, nice booking!
bradm
not the original guitar playerDidnt he have some sort of mental illness and end up hospitalized? I might have a different group in mind. It's tough to say, as they went through quite a few guitar players in the early days. I checkedhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Cheerbut didn't find any mention of any of them being hospitalized.Aloha,Brad
Booche
It may not have been the original guitar player. I seem to recall having a Relix from the early nineties with an interview from a lead guitar player from that group, which told a sad tale of drug abuse, institutionalization and a chronic pattern of continued similarity. AD
I was going to suggest Mongrels (members of Bionic, Tricky Woo, Local Rabbits) - I checked their page and they're opening the Montreal Blue Cheer show... Get them, they're quite the band.http://www.myspace.com/mongrelsmtlI was also going to suggest the Illuminati, but it appears they've broken up. Now he's finally mentally fit, if not in need of a diet.
Jaimoe
I actually prefer Blue Cheer's version of Summertime Blues over the overrated live Who version from Live At Leeds.

TheGoodRev
Montreal's Bullmoose would be a great choice.Or, you know, the Achievers.

questcequecest?
i don't know Blue Cheer, but my suggestion is The Droops!
Booche
That would be a sweet gig The Rev and Jaimoe.I love Bullmoose. Those young fucks know how to rock. Superstack is a good call too but obviously neither band is from the area. Both those bands rock hard and I am scared to think what they must sound like (LOUD) in a bar.Fuck. Jaimoe
i don't know Blue Cheer, but my suggestion is The Droops!Their first album came out in 1968 and remains their most famous. Most people know their monster hit remake of Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues. Here's a video of the song. This band helped put Acid Rock on the market: http://youtube.com/watch?v=t-kFe4l_W30
