50 years ago tonight (just after midnight) the world of rock 'n' roll would suffer what would arguably be its greatest loss. There were more to come, but few would do so much with so little time as Buddy Holly.


No disrespect to Richardson and Valens, but Buddy was the man.

Lest we forget.

For me, Buddy Holly is to rock what Hank Williams is to country and Robert Johnson is to the blues - a figure whose greatness literally defines a genre. It's difficult sometimes to fully appreciate the magnitude of their impact outside the historical context within which they worked.

Buddy Holly was 22 when he died.
