  2. Good lookin' crop! Video: http://wcbstv.com/video/?id=19957@ktvt.dayport.com Texas-Sized 7-Acre Pot Crop Amazes DEA Agents Say Those Who Planted Crop 'Farmed It To Perfection' (CBS) DALLAS The Drug Enforcement Administration believes they have found the largest marijuana field in Dallas history. On Friday, agents found 10,451 plants on seven acres on land near Camp Wisdom and Beltline roads. Authorities said whoever planted the field went to great lengths to make sure they had a healthy, yet hidden crop. On Saturday, a bull dozer was used to cut through a quarter-mile of thick brush so agents could collect the plants. The field of pot was discovered on TXU-owned land near the Trintiy River. Originally, Grand Prairie police believed the crop was in their city limits, but later learned it was on the Dallas County side. During the collection process, officials said the plant sizes ranged from seedlings to 7 feet tall. The estimated street value for the marijuana is $4 million to $5 million.

  5. I totally wish i could be there. I've loved the Cheese ever since my buddy in Arizona, and another in Texas, turned me on to them in 1997. IT's been a great ride. Became friends with their great soundman JonO (too bad he's not a part of the finale). People I know who have been to Hornings revere it as a completely magical place. It will be the perfect sendoff. I don't care what people say about SCI, I have had MANY mystical moments at their gigs. Pure joy I tell ya. Go and have some extra fun for me too. Sad that I won't be seeing SCI with Billy again any time soon

  7. Wonder what it sounds like? Cool idea: http://www.electric-guitar-review.com/2007/07/20/eco-friendly-hemp-guitar-cabinet-hits-the-market/ Eco-Friendly Hemp Guitar Cabinet Hits The Market Cary Jul 20th Hard Truckers, the ambitious folks who managed to design, build, and maintain the Grateful Dead’s infamous 26,400-watt Wall of Sound (both on and off tour,) have introduced a new eco-friendly speaker cabinet made of pressed hemp, covered in renewable bamboo, and boasting two 12†Tone Tubby Hempcone Speakers. Aimed at professional guitar players and weekend warriors alike, “The Fatty†is being billed as an environmentally friendly and truly sustainable alternative to generic extension cabinets. The cabinet, which is built of 3â„4†hemp board, features an open back design, protective and stylish hardwood edging (maple or vermilion on the base model; cocobolo, birds eye maple, mahogany and koa available as options,) finished road-worthy bamboo siding, two front-mounted 12†Tone Tubby Hempcone Speakers with specially milled Hard Truckers aluminum speaker clamps and “quick†disconnects, and a single Neutrik locking1â„4†jack with latch release. “The Fatty†also sports a protective cover made of baltic birch, and held in place by rare earth magnets––but for the true deadhead Hard Truckers offers a full assortment of custom tie-dye and batik grill covers. The perfect gift for the green guitar player who has everything.
  8. http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Olbermann_slams_Bush_after_Hillary_blamed_0719.html MSNBC's Keith Olbermann began tonight's Countdown program with a special comment. The unusual move to open his show with the comment, which is almost always reserved for the closing of the program, added gravity to his words. "It is one of the great, dark, evil lessons of history," begins Olbermann, "that a country, a government, a military machine can screw up a war seven ways to Sunday; it can get thousands of its people killed; it can risk the safety of its own citizens; it can destroy the fabric of its nation; but as long as it can identify a scapegoat, it can regain, or even gain, power." The Bush administration, says Olbermann, has found its scapegoat for Iraq in presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). Olbermann referred to a letter Pentagon number two Eric Edelman sent to Clinton admonishing her for calling for a withdrawal in Iraq. "Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq," wrote Edelman, "much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia." A spokesman for Clinton called Edelman's letter "outrageous and dangerous," which Olbermann feels "may actually understate the risk the Edelman letter poses to our way of life." By choosing Hillary Clinton as his scapegoat, says Olbermann, Bush has consigned himself to "that remarkably small group of Americans whom Americans can not forgive. Those who have sold this country out, and who have willingly declared their enmity to the people, at whose pleasure they supposedly serve." "A scapegoat, sir, might be forgivable," Olbermann continued, addressing President Bush, "if you had not just happened to choose a prospective presidential nominee from the opposition party." Olbermann concludes that the Bush contention that withdrawal is abandonment is fallacious and that everyone already knows that the US is leaving Iraq, even if it means impeaching the president to do it. The following video is from MSNBC's Countdown, broadcast on July 19.
  9. Looks like there may be some answers: http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/43163/story.htm Asian Parasite Killing Western Bees - Scientist MADRID - A parasite common in Asian bees has spread to Europe and the Americas and is behind the mass disappearance of honeybees in many countries, says a Spanish scientist who has been studying the phenomenon for years. The culprit is a microscopic parasite called nosema ceranae said Mariano Higes, who leads a team of researchers at a government-funded apiculture centre in Guadalajara, the province east of Madrid that is the heartland of Spain's honey industry. He and his colleagues have analysed thousands of samples from stricken hives in many countries. "We started in 2000 with the hypothesis that it was pesticides, but soon ruled it out," he told Reuters in an interview on Wednesday. Pesticide traces were present only in a tiny proportion of samples and bee colonies were also dying in areas many miles from cultivated land, he said. They then ruled out the varroa mite, which is easy to see and which was not present in most of the affected hives. For a long time Higes and his colleagues thought a parasite called nosema apis, common in wet weather, was killing the bees. "We saw the spores, but the symptoms were very different and it was happening in dry weather too." Then he decided to sequence the parasite's DNA and discovered it was an Asian variant, nosema ceranae. Asian honeybees are less vulnerable to it, but it can kill European bees in a matter of days in laboratory conditions. "Nosema ceranae is far more dangerous and lives in heat and cold. A hive can become infected in two months and the whole colony can collapse in six to 18 months," said Higes, whose team has published a number of papers on the subject. "We've no doubt at all it's nosema ceranae and we think 50 percent of Spanish hives are infected," he said. Spain, with 2.3 million hives, is home to a quarter of the European Union's bees. His team have also identified this parasite in bees from Austria, Slovenia and other parts of Eastern Europe and assume it has invaded from Asia over a number of years. Now it seems to have crossed the Atlantic and is present in Canada and Argentina, he said. The Spanish researchers have not tested samples from the United States, where bees have also gone missing. Treatment for nosema ceranae is effective and cheap -- 1 euro (US$1.4) a hive twice a year -- but beekeepers first have to be convinced the parasite is the problem. Another theory points a finger at mobile phone aerials, but Higes notes bees use the angle of the sun to navigate and not electromagnetic frequencies. Other elements, such as drought or misapplied treatments, may play a part in lowering bees' resistance, but Higes is convinced the Asian parasite is the chief assassin. 10. It's a sweet display too! I got to see it this morning (i went to Derringer's Breakfast ) Right inside the front door is a big road case that is open. In it is the guitar laid out in the bottom, and under glass. The top portion (lid) has a plaque, Jimi pics, etc. Very cool stuff.
  11. Looks like a nice weekend run, eh? Last time I saw Warren in Burlington was back in 2000 with Phil & Friends:

  14. I'd like to see the whole Jam "scene" morph into something more along the lines of the jazz scene. Have players constantly rotating and forming different permutations and ensembles. Who really needs ONE big thing, when you can have a whole bunch of more reasonably-sized things that offer more variety and interesting venues. It has moved more that way recently and the big stadiums are being left for over-priced professional sports teams to fill.
  15. Be sure that Speedy doesn't charge you any extra time for the "extra" work they had to do ordering another sensor, etc. What kind of car do you have? Sometimes it's better to take something like that to a mechanic that specializes in that brand. Why don't you like ABS? Is it the strange noise and the grinding feel it makes under your foot? That's what will actually allow you to have steering abilities if you ever have to slam your brakes on. Without ABS, your wheels all lock up and you retain absolutely no steering abilities (unless you "pump" your brakes ... which you shouldn't be concerned with when you're trying to save your life and you should NEVER "pump" ABS systems). They definitely shouldn't be coming on all the time. That can be fixed. If you deactivate them it's the equivalent of turning off your air-bags, or even not bothering with a seatbelt. Be careful. It's important to understand how ABS works: * In an emergency situation, apply your brakes hard and stay on them. The more pedal chatter the better. * Don't pump your brakes. Pumping is for standard brakes. It completely robs ABS brakes of their effectiveness. * Remember that ABS brakes do not help you stop quicker under most conditions. They do help you maintain steering control during braking so you can veer around obstacles. * The general rule of thumb is that if you have to avoid an obstacle, veer to the right. This way, you avoid oncoming traffic. * Don't become an over-confident driver because you have ABS. Drive prudently as you always should. http://www.mucda.mb.ca/aboutabs.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-lock_braking_system
  16. "Heady" Pic ! I envy you. Next time I go, I'm making sure that they are open when i'm there. My sister just one a trip to France through the Globe and Mail. Worth $10G holy fuck! She's not taking me though
  17. Damn graveyard security! When I was there I planned on heading out. Determined there were other things we wanted to check out instead ... like the CATACOMBS!! Too bad they were closed during the week we were there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacombs_of_Paris There's huge chunks of the catacombs that aren't "open" but there are Parisians who explore them. They found a movie theatre underground that the Nazis had used.
