  1. When I start my computer it says "Windows" somewhere along the way, so I assume my op is windows?

The computer clock is set properly.

The AVG security thing is the part with the incorrect date setting. The AVG claims my last scan was 11/11/11 and my last update was 20/11/11.

Again, my computer is set to the proper day and time.

  2. I was misleading regarding the mouse comment. The mice I have work fine.

I point my curser at things and click them, but nothing happens. Once I alt/ctrl/del the clicking will work again.

My virus protection (vt) says the date is incorrect, but I can't figure out how to correct it. When I try to update my vt it won't complete it, and when I do a vt scan it gets almost done then tells me the scan has been cancelled. It suggests I restart the scan but gives me no way of restarting it.

Special thanks to phishtaper, DB and sloth for reminding me that if I do indeed find myself without a computer that I won't be missing much.

  3. My computer is fucking up again. It sorta doesn't recognise the mouse, like the curser moves around and such but it won't click anything.

I try and run a virus check - the virus checker says my last virus check was (will be?) 11/11/11, and it says my last virus checker update was (will be?) 11/20/11. (AVG free virus checker)

I checked my calendar and it's set for today's date.

    Any suggestions?

I honestly think if this computer craps out I'm gonna try very hard to resist buying another. I go nuts supporting an industry where "More than half of these units will crap out on you the first year" (the sales pitch I was given while computer shopping).

If this is it, I'll still check the internet from work a few days a week, so I'll still be around.

  6. Thanks SM for your detailed and informed opinion, and thanks again Esau for the links.

There's a guitar that came into the OFC that has a price tag of $24,000 on it. They are careful of who they let play it. I jokingly suggested that they put up a YBIYBI sign and let everybody try it out. It would seem to me that it's a playable work of art and it would further seem to me that any noticable mark inadvertently made on it would make it unsellable and would thereby move that six-string right off the shelf.

I reiterate it was a joke and not a sales strategy! It did however lead me to ponder and thought I'd post here to see what would turn up.

Also, and more practically, I was wondering what my liability would be if I tried it out and somehow damaged it.

Bottom line: I'm not gonna try it out, and it seems that OFC is smart to have thw guitar in a locked display case.

  7. "Jingle Bells" is one of the best-known and commonly sung winter songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. Even though it is commonly thought of as a Christmas song, it was actually written and sung for Thanksgiving. It was mistakenly branded as a Christmas song because being extremely popular at Thanksgiving, it was sung again around Christmas.

  8. Dashing through the snow

In a one horse open sleigh

    O'er the fields we go

    Laughing all the way

    Bells on bob tails ring

    Making spirits bright

What fun it is to laugh and sing

    A sleighing song tonight

    Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

    Jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

    A day or two ago

    I thought I'd take a ride

    And soon Miss Fanny Bright

    Was seated by my side

The horse was lean and lank

    Misfortune seemed his lot

We got into a drifted bank

    And then we got upsot

    Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

    Jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh yeah

    Jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

    Jingle bells, jingle bells

    Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh
