  1. Yes; I am quite the party-animal in my old age aren't I? ... and I suspect your Yiddish may be a bit rusty, that is lunch with "Bubby", by the way ... Thank you everyone for this thread. This is the most exciting thing that has yet happened to me on my birthday. (Ya. I'm a loser. What are you gonna do?)
  2. I heard the same story, but it was a competition between Alice and Ozzy, and the penultimate moment was one of them drinking a bowl of saliva, that had been filled by the audience. Urban legends...
  3. I once heard that Clapton found out that his sister, who is 12 years older than he is, is actually his mother. His mother is his grandmother, and she raised him as his own. If I'm correct, he learned about this only around 10 or 12 years ago. Anyone ever hear that legend?
  4. Legend has it that in the early-1960s Bob Dylan met John Lennon in person. They were both glad to meet each other, having heard about each other for years. Apparently, Bob said, "You write great music. Why don't you write some intelligent lyrics to go along with it?" Apparently John said, "I really dig your lyrics. Why don't you mellow out, though, and start experimenting with illegal drugs?" They both went home, and heeded each others' advice. The rest was history. Legend? Truth?
  5. 5. I heard that Ozzy was once staggering around a runway waiting for his private plane, when he had to relieve himself. He urinated on the nearest car, which just happened to be a cop-car, and happened to be inhabited by a cop at the time; who wasn't impressed. If I had to bet, I'd bet that one is true (to some degree).
  6. Aha! In true urban-legend-tradition. I expect that someone else here will say they heard of the same album, by Dr. Demento, or something. I'll bet it never existed. Any other music-urban-legends out there to share?
  7. boiler rat started a thread asking for music trivia. While I was thinking about what to post, I thought of all sorts of "facts" I know about musicians, that I really can't say are true or not. I've heard so many things, that I've never seen verified, that it occurred to me I probably know more "urban legends" about musicians, than I know trivia. So, this thread is started for people to post things they've heard about musicians, and others to reply and give some input as to whether they think the "fact" is true or not. I am actually starting this, because I want to know the answer to this: 1. I once heard of a Frank Zappa album that was a very small release, like hundreds of copies. I heard it was called Frank Zappa "Rip Off". I was told that you put the album on your turntable and hear Zappa say "Ha ha. You've been ripped off.", and then the needle goes right to the centre of the album; and that's it. I've looked online several times, and see no evidence that this album ever existed. If it did, though, I'd think copies would (ironically) be really valuable today. So, does anyone know if this urban legend is true at all? Does this album exist? (Feel free to post your own music urban legends here, as well.)
  8. 6. I met a guy on a plane who saw Van Morrison in 1971. Van walked (staggered) onto the stage, sang a-song-and-a-half, passed out ... someone walks onstage, "Thank you everyone, good night!"

  17. Blane: I'd be the wrong guy to be researching Quebec or American law. Quebec is an anomaolous "civil law" jurisdiction in Canada, that I know nothing about, and I really know nothing of American law. Otherwise I'd look into helping. MZ: 70 bucks??? That's pretty hefty. I hope I'm worth it! Of course I'll sign it and send it right back. I'm honoured to be asked. I can have James Morton sign it as well, if you like. He also works at this office.

  19. ... Ms_Zimmy being one of those "three people" I was referring to in the subject line. Thanks for ordering (or at least saying you are going to, even if you really don't end up doing so. It still makes me feel good.)
  20. Oh ya, of course. I'm already planning my retirement for next week or so. (In reality, my expectations are that I stand to make DOZENS of dollars from this. lol)
  21. Believe it or not, they sent me ONE complimentary copy. I may get a couple more down the road, and likely a big pile of them in a few years when it goes out of print. I'd love to give free, signed copies to all my friends, but I'd actually have to buy the book and pay retail prices to do it.
  22. Although few of you will have any interest in this, I just had to post a picture of this book, that is so new it hasn't actually come out yet:
  23. It is definitely just a matter of time before I call you for this.
  24. peace lizard; some photos: Link to some photos of Vanessa (and other, less important people)
