  1. Tune into Carleton University's radio station,

CKCU-FM, 93.1 on your dial, this

    coming Monday night, December 16th,

from 8-10 for a special program on the

    Ottawa Jamband Scene.

I'll be your host. "Bouche" and "Dr. Hux" will

join me in the studio for lively night of great

music and some insight into our incredible local

scene! Not to mention some great prizes for

    listeners!

People outside of the Ottawa area can listen

via our RealAudio service, provided by Magma

Communications. Just go to this link:

    CKCU-FM Live Audio

    With your enthusiastic support,

we can make this a regular show

    on CKCU-FM.

  2. On the way to Detroit to see "The Other

Ones" on Saturday, coupla' lads in an

SUV pulled up beside me, giving the thumbs

up sign, and smiling. I guess they saw

the PHISH sticker on the back of my car.

The passenger wrote a note: "Going to

Detroit?" it said. I gave the thumbs up and

    we all waved.

He wrote another note: "I have a copy of the

new Phish disc for you!". So we all stopped

at the next rest stop and he gave me a copy.

(Obviously pirated off the internet). He was

just "spreading the tunes", he said!

Didn't get a chance to listen to it until I got home, and I've been listening to it since Monday. Unfortunately, my impressions of this disc are not favourable. I have to say that Round Room is my least favourite Phish studio recording.

They say they did this album in four days in the studio. I wish they would have spent a little more time on it. This album is way too mellow. There are no songs on this that are gonna make wanna get up and dance when played live. Round Room lacks the funk of

"Ghost", the fun and humour of "Hoist", and

    the introspectiveness of "Billy Breathes".

It sounds to me like their record company made them record this in order to have something to promote and sell on the upcoming tour. Let's hope they keep the Round Room tracks to minimum in concert, and concentrate on the old stuff!

That being said, I will still purchase Round Room when it comes out next Tuesday.

6 out of 10. Your mileage may vary.

  3. Yes, what an awesome show. Hey Mark! I saw you in the hot tub at the Holiday Inn. I just recognized you from your avatar. Sorry I did not say Hello that night.

I've stayed in hotels all over Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and that was the first time I've ever been in a place where the pool was open all night.

That doesn't make sense. Oysterhead's not currently touring, so they wouldn't be playing in Canada anyway. That $10-15 you're talking about was people trying to get rid of extra tickets they had bought. The band doesn't care about that. Massey Hall was jam packed for that show, I don't know how you could say there were "no attendees"

  5. I heard that Ron had a tentative, perhaps

a verbal agreement with the producer of HNIC

for a 600,000 salary, and it was nixed by the

VP of CBC, because he didn't want Ron making

more cash than other high-profile CBC talking

    heads (probably Mansbridge).

Sounds to me like this VP is just grandstanding!

Hey, since CBC gets 800 million a year from the Canadian taxpayer, that means we're

all paying for Ron's salary. Write to your

MP and demand they sign Ron MacLean!

  6. Keep trying over the course of the day... some people screw up their credit card info, and ticketmaster will release those tickets.

Also, they set aside a certain number of tickets for their employees, VIPs, and generally well-connected people. If those people decide not to claim their tickets, ticketmaster will release them close to the concert date.

    It's worth a shot!

  7. I met Mike Gordon in the campsite at the Gorge in 1997. He was making his rounds on a golf cart, saying "Hi" to phans everywhere.

At the time I was getting a massage from a lady who had set up a massage table in the campsite. She was a massage student, and was charging $5 for a 15-minute massage. After about 5 minutes, she said "Your massage is over buddy!". I looked up and there was Mike. She wanted to massage him!

He respectfully declined the complementary massage offer. I got up, said Hello and gushed over what a wicked bass player he is! He thanked me profusely, said Hello to everyone who was around, then left on the golf cart!

I did get my remaining 10 minutes on the massage table!
