I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Brad, you are the man! Thanks very much for providing the community with so many fine recordings!

Something I don't understand... Milli Vanilli was caught in a lip-synching scandal, and their music career was finished. Ashley Simpson gets a TV show, and gets a gig singing at halftime at the biggest football game after the Superbowl. Can anyone explain why?
-
Here's my suggestion to the Ottawa Bluesfest people. Get some BLUES acts headlining on the main stage for chrissakes!!
Having Taj Mahal play on side stage while The Tragically Hip play on the main stage is sacrilegious. I love the hip as much as anyone, but they've got no business playing at a blues festival. Nor does Nelly Furtado, Brian Adams, etc. etc. etc.
Either that or change the name of the whole frickin' event.

I know "Voodoo Lady" is a Ween tune, but is "Black Betty" one as well? If not, who did it originally?
Aloha,
Brad
Ledbelly - originally wrote and performed the song way back in the 40s I believe.
Ram Jam - did the rock version of the song you're all familiar with. in the 70s. I have it on vinyl.

Just returned from a week in Mexico and I'll be at nero tonight for sure! Look for us... we'll be the tanned ones drinking.
-
What about Zedonk by nero?
That's in my top 5 for sure.
Haven't decided on the other 4 yet.

There's a good interview with former Ottawa resident Dave Lemieux on jambase.com
As you may know Dave is The Dead's archivist. It's a good read.

I just threw on "Vulgar Display of Power" after I read this.
Man,this fricken sucks,Darrell had one intense voice, awesome vocalist live,I would put money down, claiming Pantera to being one of the most aggressive, heaviest bands I have ever had the enjoyment of listening to.
Very sad news.
Darrel was the guitarist for Pantera. The singer was Philip Anselmo.
I saw them in Montréal in '95. Phil went into some racist rage between songs. All in the audience couldn't believe it. That was the last I ever listened to Pantera. Racist jerks.
That being said, this shooting is terrible.

It's like "stick it to the man", which you can do by sticking your arm up a vending machine to steal a can of pop.

well after much discussion and bandying about of ideas, i've convinced my wife and several of our friends that nero will be the band to see and mavericks the place to be on dec. 31st. just ordered my tickets from neroland.com
see y'all there!

Pot use is up because it's so hard to get hash now!

Thanks Brad!!!

The hip's performance was NOT lip-synched, like Shania Twain's at the Superbowl a couple of years ago!

Sure wish the John Henry's had played. The replacement opening band left a lot to be desired. Most of their songs were about food!
It wasn't these guys, was it?
Ha! No. The replacement opening band was Yogi & The Lunatic. Pretty good musically, but their lyrics were awful! They did make me hungry, however!

I was there last night. A very sparse crowd. Perhaps the least number of people I've seen in Barrymore's since the Monday night local showcases they used to have in the late 80s! Anyway, the drummer for the Bush Pilots is an old friend of mine so I enjoyed their set. Sure wish the John Henry's had played. The replacement opening band left a lot to be desired. Most of their songs were about food!

.. something about tonight's moe. show!
-
Well that took about 15 seconds! Brad, I will email you with the details. Why don't you take Stapes to the show?
-
Courtesy of CKCU-FM - 93.1 FM ... The first person who lives in Ottawa to reply to this post gets his or her name on the moe guest list for the show at Barrymore's tomorrow night. The winner can bring a friend.

Hi Dave, I've had good look with Total Choice Hosting
The domain name registration is like $11 a year and hosting is $44 a year. Those are American dollars but it still works out to a lot less than what Canadian companies will charge you (in my experience). Their tech support is excellent. I'm not affliated with them in any way.

I think Orson Welles made the most accurate prediction some 56 years ago...
WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
how utterly appropriate.
I think you meant GEORGE ORWELL.

That's what Jon Stewart told Madeline Albright on "The Daily Show" last night when she said "I want to be part of your universe, Jon"
Truer words to live by I have never heard.

I think it's actually Tokeland, Washington ....
Aloha,
Brad
Aha! That's why I couldn't remember! Too busy toking. You know what they say, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do!"

Great night, well-written review, and excellent photos (especially the one of me!).
