  1. Hey, did anyone buy an Iron Maiden tour shirt at the Bluesfest? If so, how much was it?

I wanted to get a shirt, but it was too hot and too crowded at the merch tent after the show. I just wanted to get out of there. So last night I ordered a 2010 tour shirt, and a Canada event shirt through the Iron Maiden web site.

Funny thing is, even with the cost of shipping from England, and the exchange rate on the Pound, I think ordering the shirts on their web site was cheaper than buying them at the concert! It came to $68 CDN for the two shirts, including shipping.

  2. Headed behind the Subway stage, heaved the chair over next to the fence and voila.....had an idea on how to bring everyones booze in later on.

the Bluesfest people .... - they read this stuff.

So much for doing that next year NW!

  3. I caught all of, or at least a good chunk of, these performances:

Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Further, Moody Blues, Steve Hackett, B-52s, Hole, Babe Ruth, Roger Hodgson, Flaming Lips, The Bush Pilots, Rush, Sarah Harmer, Cat Empire, Arcade Fire, Steve Winwood, Santana, Old Crow Medicine Show, Matt Andersen, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Stars, Ronnie Baker Brooks, The Hold Steady, The Musical Box, Joe Krown Trio, Jimmy Cliff, Foghat

I don't want to limit my faves to a top 3 - almost everything was really good. I was pleasantly surprised by the Cat Empire, and a bit disappointed by Stars.

For the first time ever at the Bluesfest, I encountered absolutely no hostility from the lawnchair nation. Another pleasant surprise!

  4. COOOOOOOOOL! You know those 12 year old kids that play sweet covers on Booth St while the Fest is letting people out? Arcade Fire went and played with them after their show the other night! Pretty awesome.

I know the father of those boys quite well. Anyone remember the band Jehova's Wetness? He sang and played guitar for them. He's done a great job with the musical training of his kids.

  5. My solution is: if it's too loud, you're too old!

Now get away from the front my lawnchair.

Seriously though, they could have had the Swell Season scheduled for a different time, or, even better, had them play in the indoor auditorium, the Ted Danson theatre or whatever it's called.

There was also another letter a couple of days ago, someone complaining about the lack of real blues acts. I'd respond to that complaint by saying that there aren't enough bankable blues acts in the world to fill a 12-day festival.
