  1. It would be an ok idea if it was advertised more clearly and the dj's music didn't suck. I went there and to be absolutely honest I hated it. It just seemed like the live music had to be rushed through in order to have enough time for the focus of the night... prerecorded music. Pretty lame. I guess it would be OK though if you could leave in time to catch a REAL show somewhere else afterwards...

  2. you need to be her employee. then she pays you, thats an expense, you get more income, and you can use your tuition credit against that. now hopefully you each thought ahead before and started some sort of business in case of this happening.

  3. ocz makes good ram

but if you are experiencing crashes it might not be a ram problem. could be motherboard, processor, power supply... just about anything. so i would run memtest (google memtest) and test the ram. if you get a failure, take out one stick and test again. if you can narrow it down to one stick then you are golden. if the ram passes then you might have other problems and new ram might be throwing good money after bad. or bad after good. however you say it.

  4. you can still cross the border with a photo id plus birth certificate. you do not need a passport to fly. photo id (preferably the kind with holographic lamination) is sufficient.

but aside from all that, i just found out they changed the requirements and you no longer need a doctor or lawyer to sign your application, it can be anyone with a valid passport. also they changed the rules for renewal so that you don't have to send your current one in to them anymore.

so putting off getting my passport totally worked out for me. sweet.

presumably this is because in the next few years way more people are going to need passports so they have to make it a bit less stupid of a process...?

  5. hey, i'm involved in a secret santa and am buying for a visitor who is staying in canada on a year visa. so i thought it would be good to get her something truly canadian, but something that could be taken home. it shoud be under $20 and small enough to not be a pain in the ass in luggage. any ideas? my first thought was music but i don't think that will work in this situation. the reality is, i'll spread canadian music electronically anyway ;-)

my only other thoughts are really trinket-y and kinda lame. but i thought you geniuses might be able to come up woth some good ideas. also any ideas posted here will probably help other people other than me. and if your idea cant be publicized out of danger of giving one of your own soon-to-be-given gift ideas away, please pm it to me.

and yes i realize taht not coming up with somehting myself is also pretty lame, but i'm willing to live with that moral demon

  6. I'm with Ollie on all of this. You can't complain too much over bandwidth throttling without knowing more facts. It is quite possible that bandwidth is really affected by the amount of torrents constantly being transferred.

Then they need to be clear about their policies up front, before they take your money. That is the main point here.

the quote suggesting that bell would rather throttle than "Upgrade equipment" is an uneducated and unresearched GUESS at best. You can't just upgrade equipment to gain more bandwidth.

Perhaps it's not entirely accurate, but what is accurate is that:

    a) clearly they have bandwidth problems now and

    B) clearly they have no moral trouble adding all of your neighbours to their service if they all called up tomorrow to join. they advertise aggressively in the hopes that this will happen!

So something is not right here... they see a problem, and their immediate solution is to throttle existing users to that they can fit more... without telling their existing users. That's wrong.

  7. How?

Well, basically, as international news, this could easily be spun (or interpreted [or simplified]) as "Unarmed man immigrating to Canada spends 10 hours at the airport before being tasered to death by four RCMP officers who don't even bother to attempt to communicate with him." It kinda makes Canada not appear to be a very tolerant, welcoming or friendly to visitors.

  8. comment over on stillepost about "bad salesmen get fired, bad cops should too"

I fully agree. This suspension with pay BS has got to go...

I'd love to fuck something up on my job and be suspended with pay! That would be great. Only difference with my job is, no one dies, just someone's computer stops working.
