  1. Hey Everyone,

Just to let you know Toronto Break-Back-Beat funkster's LAL are playing Friday May 6th at the Gypsy Co-Op at 817 Queen St West. Their sound reminds me of a sublime Portishead, with their own twist of course. A more solid back beat anchors spacey double bass, samples, keys, and a variety of other 'fun' instruments. Don't come expecting to Jazzercize, but feel free to get carried away by the very danceable rhythms. Should be a very good time... atleast that's what I working towards ;). $8 bux is the damage... hope to see you there!

  2. Gandhi would be pissed:

    • Wal-Mart is the largest private employer in the world and the richest company in the world.

    • 5000 stores worldwide in 10 countries

    • 256 stores across Canada employing over 60,000 employees

    • 5 of the richest 13 people in the world are members of the Walton family.

    • 28 hours a week is considered fulltime work at Wal-Mart.

    • Wal-Mart’s highest paid executive earns more money in one day than a Wal-Mart cashier earns in 4 years.

    • 2/3 of Wal-Mart’s workers cannot participate in its health insurance plan because of its high cost and huge deductibles.

    • Wal-Mart employees in the U.S. had to sue to collect the overtime pay that they had earned.

    • Wal-Mart’s female employees, in every job category, have been paid less than their male counterparts each year since 1997. The biggest class-action lawsuit (1.5 million women) in U.S. history is underway against Wal-Mart for this systemic discrimination against women.

    • Wal-Mart has been cited more than 40 times by the National Labour Relations Board for using illegal tactics (such as threats and firings) to deny its workers the right to have a union.

    • Wal-Mart workers in Jonquiere, Quebec successfully organized their workplace through the United Food and Commercial Workers’ Union. Wal-Mart’s response was to close the store. 200 workers lost their jobs.

    • Wal-Mart challenged Saskatchewan labour laws, citing that their rights under the charter were being infringed upon after refusing to provide the Saskatchewan Labour Board with internal documents on training management how to remain union-free.

    • Wal-Mart has been found guilty 4 times in Canada for unfair labour practices for intimidating and harassing workers during an organizing campaign.

    • In Ontario Wal-Mart was fined $500,000 for failing to report workplace accidents and injuries.

  3. The Pentagon will investigate the U.S. Air Force Academy after cadets complained that they were ordered to pray and told they'd go to hell if they didn't preach the word of God.

Someone should tell them they are alreay there. Hell that is... Hades... liquid souls.

  4. If only "everyone" did JC, but if Goat Horn has their way, everyone would be at the Kathedrial Friday for some Death Metal.

Well, if it's good enough for Montreal it's good enough for me, thx Funch. Looks like I've found a new friend from a far away! I'll look into these bands when I get a chance... we've got a date (or two) in June, and then the schedule gets wide open.

  5. Get on this!!

A wicked series! Good job on puttin' this together!!

Hey Thanks, I do it cause I love the music ;) But really I'm just a middle man... Both the talent and the venue are top shelf, so it really makes my job easy!

Remember to e-mail me for tix! There are still some left! ;)

    Peace ~W

  6. Terrible band.

They may not be now, but they were total corporate rock when they were formed (by their label).

I'm sorry, what are you talking about... I'm sure thats what Ament and Gossard were thinking when Andy Wood died of a Her-o OD... "How can we profit from this?" Leave your small-axe at home fry guy. And exactly why was Eddie a beach bum?... becasue we all know, surfing is a sure way to make money. Eddie's a corperate pirate who knows all the safe cove's... yar.

Also I credit evolution for their ultimate creation... those record label dorks were just at the right place at the right time. Same goes for all the band members in relation to themselves... and any of those who enjoy this music. BTW I'm not trying to convert, just defend... I need room to move at the shows.

    ;)

  7. Hmmm... Where are the Blues? It's offical... that should be the slogan of the event. Hehe, not that it's not wicked... I just think they should make everything blue, then it doesn't just have to be about the music. BTW anyone think P-mate will be back this year? My supply ran out... just kidding... that product, is freaky, weird, and gross.
