  1. I saw Page/Plant shows in Buffalo in '95 and in Toronto in '98 and have to say they were some of the best shows I've attended too. Page was amazing to hear and Plant is simply a god. I'd put Robert Plant up there with Dylan in that you know you are in the presense of a musical genius performer. The way the man moves and sings is beautiful.

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest Zeppelin fan, but have to tip my hat to these two guys. As much as they may have "borrowed" riffs and lyrics from others (and been sued and settled out of court, and changed writing credits ... several times) they still made some of the best music in modern history.

Have no idea what adding Jones to the mix would do, but if he's even remotely like the other two guys in his abilities on stage, this should prove to be an incredible show (tour?). But its one of those things, when one member of the original band is dead, you can never really have a genuine "reunion", I think.

  3. that would be pretty lame if they don't let "new" friends buy. everyone paid their money the same, that would be unfair. and i'll freak out big time. hehe i pretty much only got the membership for these shows. i don't go to toronto much and never to these venues. so it better fuckin work!!!

i think that's their point. becoming a Friend is intended to show support for the venue, not to get advance tix. and fwiw, they implemented it for the David Gilmore shows to prevent scalping.

  4. that's a tiny convention centre, in a very inconvenient location :)

im not sure we are talking about the same place. im referring to the new one under construction beside the university, ministry buildings and the research parks at the corner of gordon and stone with 14,000 sq ft in meeting rooms. perhaps not Toronto-size, but it will be the biggest in the area and sorely needed. its location couldn't be more convenient, i think.

  5. Very cool event. Hillside has also been 'green' on a much smaller scale for years. Virtually all food at the festival is served on reusable plates which are hand washed by an army of volunteers; water was provided free of charge for people with reusable containers; a living roof was planted on top of the main stage (which incidentally will also cover the roof of the new hotel and convention centre adjacent to the university of guelph); shuttle busses have been running for years; one stage is fully solar powered, and; film containers are provided for people to keep their cigarette butts. Lots of organization, no doubt, but quite appreciated and respected by all.

  6. Fair warning, in the past, Massey Hall has prohibited "new" Friends from having access to the pre-sale tix for obviously high demand shows (probably to prevent scapling, and to maintain good odds for existing Friends), and on other occasions, they have simply not had a Friends pre-sale at all. I have no idea what the deal is now, or for these two shows.
