  1. Sure, commercial distribution would be controlled, but there could still be provisions to allow for backyard growers, much like folks are permitted to make homebrew.

I would tend to agree, but I feel it wouldn't be immediate & if it was indoors you'd probally require some sort of permit & maybe have to pay to have it installed given the equipment required. Being an electrician myself, I would expect that to occur, seeing as I have only seen a couple home grow-ops that weren't possible hazards.

    [edit to add]

Speaking soley about legalization I mean.

  2. Greg do you know how to get a hold of him? Or it may be worth posting a message on the west coast forum. If not, we could probably scrounge up an email address for you

    Cheers, sara

No, I haven't any contact info but I do know someone in BC that I was gettin some Fat cats shows from a few years back that may know.

Now that a 2000 show is up, it'd be great to see a show from 94 and 95 eventually put up, just to have every year represented......

You got it Rob, luckily in this batch of recordings (mostly from 96) I have a couple 94 & 95 shows. Now, since were talking about representing each year then I guess I should find out if the first set exists for this 92 show also. ;)

  3. people don't want legalization because that puts the government in charge of deciding what pot can be sold, who can grow it and how much to charge for it (which'd be large you'd figure)... given the government's track record of growing unsmokable medicinal weed this wouldn't be good at all, so people would still resort to the black market... like with anything, people who produce the best quality product are people who appreciate what goes into making a good quality product because they themselves appreciate such a product

Very good point Pais, when I was in Amsterdam at the cannabis cup in 1997, during one of the 420 gatherings/lectures hosted by Stephen Gaskins, he touched on pretty much the same thing. Explaining how complete legalization, although good for the smokers in the sense you wouldn't be charged for possesion or simply smoking, the penalities for growing would more then likely increase with stricter jail terms for doing so, as well for selling marijuana and this would apply right down to small amounts. He talked about gov't regulations on how it is grown, potency levels where its grown and who can grow it etc, basically like alcohol it would be tightly controlled.

Ideally, he said legalization would be great but in the end we don't live in an ideal world, so we need to take small steps forward, like starting out with decriminalization, reducing jail terms and most of all, educating. He did think that an age of majority was a good idea.

  4. Same thing when a cop walks by a pot cafe, of which there are several in Canada.

I see your point Velvet, but as we know, now with Harper in power, the police are starting to use a law brought in by Harris that allows the Attorney General of Ontario to seek forfeiture of money or other property (Remedies for Organized Crime and Other Unlawful Activities Act). Worst part is a person doesn't need to be found guilty or even charged with committing a crime for the property to be seized.

This has occured in Hamilton (although the bar needed to be shut down in my opinion), but then within the same week the Up In smoke cafe, a couple doors away and open for a few years without incident only a block away from central police station was busted, then busted again and threatened with this law.

As for folks smoking joints outside a club, in Hamilton anyway, I have seen the police stop on many occasions and even bust folks (myself included), as well heard horror stories of the police putting the squeeze on bar owners about their patrons smoking joints outisde during set breaks. I know that the old La Lunas back during the mid 90s was threatened with alot because of the patrons smoking outside or inside the club.

Personally, I find the alternatives to the decrriminalization much more troubling.

  5. SONOMA, California - The long, strange trip continues for Jerry Garcia's toilet. Police say the Grateful Dead leader's commode was stolen recently from a driveway along with three other toilets and a bidet, The Press Democrat newspaper reported Saturday.

Garcia's salmon-colored toilet was the subject of a legal battle before it was finally moved to Sonoma, to await shipment to a Canadian casino.

  6. Just saw bouche answer a question on CPAC! It was brief but I knew who it was as soon as I seen him.

I was flipping past and noticed a question about Ken Dryden being asked on the street - "Before entering politics, what NHL team was Ken Dryden president of?"

    bouche got it right.

  7. Out of curiousity, did some checking as I wasn't familiar with the names either.

    Peter Griffith: from his bio.

Graduating in 2001 with a B.A. in Music, Griffin immediately moved to Los Angeles. Eventually, he began to work at the Musician's Institute as a teacher's assistant, as well as attending every audition he heard about. After playing a few shows with Save Ferris's Monique Powell, Griffin began to play bass for Hanson in 2003, touring the US and Asia in 2004 and appearing on several TV shows including The Tonight Show, The Today Show, and Good Morning America. In 2005 Pete played on Hanson's live album "Live and Electric," in addition to playing a few shows with the Edgar Winter Band. In early 2006 Pete was picked to play for the Zappa Plays Zappa tour with Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai and others.

He talks about the rehersals for this also. Sounds like its goin be somthing to see if you ask me. Hopefully I can score a ticket.

  8. Haven't spoke with Tim in a few years actually. Before he moved to BC was the last time I imagine.

I agree it would be terrible if this music were to disappear (at worst) or just not be out there for others. Means alot ot me thats for sure, alot of important life moments occured to and for me throughout the 90's, as well many strong friendships and the soundtrack has always included Fatties. I know I've said it many times before but, theres not a Canadian band I enjoy more.

I appreciate your help & words Sara.

    Cheers

  9. Thanks guys, I enjoy doing it thats for sure.

If anyone on here from the west coast or anywhere else for that matter knows who did the recording during either the first west tour (early summer 96) or the second (fall 96) please let me know, I'd love to give credit where credits due for these.

  10. Masked and Anonymous was released in 2003.

I believe you can get the soundtrack at most music stores, in the soundtrack section. Although, I think I seen it in a Dylan section once also.

I'm sure it could be found online also...like, Amazon..or a bittorrent site I guess.

Heres some info from wiki, but be warned, latley they have been locking any Dylan related info on wiki due to some fools editing to some incorrect info unfortunatley. (This topic doesn't appear to have been hit)

The film was shot in only twenty days and was funded by the BBC. It was distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, a well-known distributor of independent productions. The soundtrack is composed entirely of Bob Dylan songs ranging from his very early 1960's-era material to work as recent as songs from his 1997 Grammy-award winning album "Time Out of Mind".

Many of the actors, including Jeff Bridges, John Goodman (reunited after their work together in the 1998 Coen Brothers film "The Big Lebowski", which also featured the 1970 Dylan song "The Man In Me"), Bruce Dern, Jessica Lange (who has had a long time relationship with playwright Sam Shepard who co-wrote the 1986 composition "Brownsville Girl" with Dylan, from the often criticized album "Knocked Out Loaded"), Penelope Cruz, Luke Wilson, Cheech Marin, Ed Harris, Chris Penn, Giovanni Ribisi, Christian Slater, Mickey Rourke, and Angela Bassett. In addition to several other actors of note, the band of the lead character is played by Dylan's actual touring band of the time. Other stars in the movie include Fred Ward and Val Kilmer.

Music from Dylan's entire career is presented in the movie, though his recent album Time Out Of Mind receives considerable play, with "Dirt Road Blues" and "Not Dark Yet" both used as background soundtrack music in scenes; Dylan also plays a very upbeat version of "Cold Irons Bound" in the film's climax. Furthermore, a live performance of "Standing in the Doorway" was cut from the final edit, but included as a bonus on the DVD.

  11. From what I understand everyone in this movie starred for free knowing that it was the only movie Dylan has been in and ever will be in.

Well, he did star in & do the soundtrack for Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973)

(I reccomend the outtakes to this soundtrack- amazing stuff - http://www.phishhook.com/lists/Esau )

Also, the flop Hearts of Fire (1987)

    Catchfire (1990)

    Paradise Cove (1999)

Don't forget his unreleased movie Renaldo and Clara.

  12. Well probally someone with alot more knowledge then myself, a bunch of the shows can be fixed, although the crowd levels just out right over power the music on alot of the acoutic shows, the above posted has other reasons for not going on archive.

Alot of the shows were originally recorded to cassette that I speak of.

  13. One example of a show not for archive is this one: (not sure I should even post this...lol)

  14. Yeah, I've drained Bren of all his recordings, Johnny La Rue recorded just about all of the shows there though and I have a bunch (about 40 currently 95-97), but the acoustic shows are sorta over taken by the crowd which has alot to do with the location of the mic (not to mention 150+ ppl in that small room) and some of the elctric are incomplete. So, most of those aren't on the list of shows for archive.

    [color:red][edit to add]

Theres alot of the recordings from Tim V. also still floating around on DAT,CD and cassette also.

    Thanks also.
