  1. So last night, curiosity got the better of me…. I went to Babylon to check out The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow…. I don’t even know where to begin telling you all about this….. Let’s start at the beginning…

I strolled into the bar to the sounds of one of the worst bands I have heard in a long time… Perhaps they weren’t that bad but certainly not my bag. They were a throwback to 80’s hair bands… Their saving grace was the stage show they traveled with, full on lights and smoke machine meant my buzz was engaged visually if not by the music. Funny thing about this band, every song was about weed, “This one is for all the stoners” or “here is a song about smoking” or “Does anyone smoke weed?” or “ let’s change the pace… here is a love song…..about the love of weed”…..hahahahahahaha, they had personality anyway..

Setbreak hit and I started to wonder if coming to see this was a mistake…. Glad I stayed.

The prelude to the Jim Rose Circus was a song entitled “the lap dance is better when the stripper is crying” …. Kinda set the tone for this Springer meets Ripleys event.

The first freak to come on stage was a 400 pound dude who had Lauzon esq control of a fucking YO-YO…. He did a choreographed routine to the sounds of Black Sabbath’s War Pigs…. I can’t even begin to describe the mad shit he was doing with that YO-YO…. Let’s just say, this was no smothers brothers routine….. in fact he might have ate the Smothers brothers….

Then Jim Rose stuck a spoon up his nose and licked it…

Next was Mexican Transvestite Wrestling….. Take a second and imagine this scene…. 2 ugly hairy dudes in masks and tights…. Each also wore a strap on cock…. Seems the object of Mexican Transvestite Wrestling is to stick you cock in your opponent’s mouth for a 3 count…. Things were going well for the dude I was cheering for until he fell victim to a nasty cock block which resulted in him being beaten with his own strap on then forced to swallow for a 3 count… fucking hilarious! I just can’t seem to pick a winner.

What followed was a routine of typical freak show attractions including the human dart board, straight jacket escape, frying pan to the head, eating and regurgitating a gold fish and of course…. A sledge hammer to the balls….. ouch

Then came the piece de la resistance…. Out came the toaster. They used this toaster to electrify each other and lifted it off the ground with their tongue, ears, and of course their cocks….

I guess Jim’s big thing (pardon the pun) is to do puppetry of the penis…. As he announced this, some dude in the audience gets up and walks to the stage…. With no fucking pants on… Jim screamed in horror and shamed him into putting it away! Then Jim “took it out” …. Enough said

It is a shame I had no one to share that with, I’m sure I’m forgetting some stuff, my stomach still huts from the laughter…. Good monday

  2. This seems like as good a spot as any to announce an upcomming Nugget. It is still far away, but this is an appropriate thread.

On Thursday August 8 at Cafe Dekcuf as a promotional event for this years Evolve fest......

Nugget Productions is proud to present.......

Revolve on a semi big screen 8pm

    Blue Quarter 10pm

Toaster competion to run the entire night.

I'm thinking this screening should be catered in some way... pizza, chineese food, or perhaps the bar below will take care of us..... thoughts?

  3. I saw that ad as well. It will be interesting to see if that show is indeed on at the Merc this Wed. I do hope so as that show sounded interesting... If it is on, it will be the last. At least until I can weasle myself in with whoever is running that show now...

this celebration has lost its appeal for me.... have fun kids

  4. Sometimes, you just know everything is going to work out fine…. Sometimes you’re even right!

The smashing success that was Drums and Tuba was important on a number of levels and all of you Skanks deserve a lot of credit for showing up and bringing friends. With yet another big Nugget night at Babylon under our belts, the stage is set for many more nights of live grooves in this room. Babylon has quickly become the single biggest supporter of this scene and this music. Babylon are actively pursuing shows that are gonna blow your mind and the success of nights like 420 and last night have everything to do with that.

So how fucking good was Drums and Tuba? Jeeeeebus! The band was so impressed with the crew of people who came out to see them. They tell me it was their best show in Canada so far and the receptive crowd and great sound had everything to do with that. How freaking long was their set? It must have been 2.5 hours… GTB was solid as always and I can’t wait to get them back for a big Babylon set blender in the near future!

There sure were a lot of toasty mo-fo’s in that room. From Treyter’s passed out date(s) to Puddles trying to light his cigarette of the toaster, there were many worthy displays of toasted behavior. I found myself to busy to really notice all the worthy candidates so please sign on this thread with your toasty tales from last night ……

Really looking forward to next weeks Nugget. Jukejoint at the Bayou next Saturday night will kick some major ass, and it will also be a birthday bash for Jaybone who should be a heavy toast favorite heading into the show…. This will be the last Nugget for a while but there won’t be any shortage of good music during June and July….

Special thanks to Arcane for helping me at the door last night......

  5. Taping is all cool.

Please bring your gear! Grum, you to!....If anyone can reach JP, try and convince him to come out. He is a wild card, you can never tell if he will show up or not.

I will assist in any way I can... sound boards are usually not a problem at Babylon.

Please tape this show!! For everyone's sake

  6. From what I heard, the CTMF was a um... less than an ideal setup to play a tuba (spitting into frozen metal and all) They actually couldn't believe how many crazy Canadians were willing to freeze there asses off, all for the party gods..... your all troopers...

I think you will find that tonight, they will get inside your soul and shake you down....

    Anyone out there taping????

  7. Oh man..... you guys are so in for it!!!

I have been reflecting on their show last night, I'm still floored, still smiling wherever I think about it... They are one of those band that make you spew disbelieving strings of prophanity..... FUUUUUCK! SHHHHHHHIT!

As amazing as this band is to listen to, you realy have to watch them and pay attention to truly appreciate what there up to. The drummer especialy! Most songs begin with all three laying down loops that continue throughout the song, then they add layers, and layers and layers and all of a sudden ...peek

    Plus GTB tonight!!! JEEEBUS !

    I should take a nap

  8. I love it when you can wake up, stare at the ceiling and think to yourself

"I get to see that band again tonight."

I can't wait! I'm already thinking about going to Montreal on Sunday!

It was a pretty sparse crowd in Kingston. I think many of them had no idea the bombs that were going to be dropped on them. By the end of set 2, everyone who could stand ($9 pitchers [Wink] ) was up and dancing.

As good as the Tuba and guitar were...... that drummer freaking killed me! Planet Claypool for sure.... where stanton meets martin.... soooo gooood

Honorary toaster to Dog at the Station and Charlie don't surf for their last call order of 2 mixed drinks and a pitcher.

Tonight will be amazing! All that last night was plus all our good friends, a nicer club, better sound, fungus and oh yeah.... the Bus!

I'm already polishing up my toaster......

  9. With Phish

I have both context and hope...... and the funks gets so deep I can't see my hands.... oh wait open your eyes.... nope... to deep

I love fucking with you deadheads.... poke, poke, poke

Hey Booche.... get read for 2 hours of MOE.

  10. The Dead do Funk?

I think I have been exposed to all the wrong dead.... that country folk shit just doesen't do it for me... especialy on tape... maybe live it could touch me.... but funk is a guaranteed score.

The truth of the matter is, I can't be bothered to explore the dead, because... well because they are dead!!!! Onlu 24 hours in the day and I listen to music for most of them, but if I have no context for their live shows and no hope of ever seeing one...... other CURRENT bands get my ear.....

That being said, I'm about to spend a couple hours in a car with Booche where I will no doubt be schooled on Deadology.

    It isin't that I don't like em..... I just don't care... [Wink]
